🔵 Japan introduced a set of Guidelines under the ministry of Health, Welfare & Labor, popularly known as the "Metabo Law" in 2008.

🔵 At that point, nearly half of all men & 1 in 5 women between the ages 40 & 74 had Metabolic syndrome to some extent.
🔵 Metabolic syndrome is basically a cluster of 5 conditions that points towards poor Metabolic health.

🔵 The guidelines under the law included the following:
▶️ Local Governments & Employers need to conduct mandatory annual examinations including waist measurements for people between the ages 40-74.
▶️ Local Governments & Employers need to conduct mandatory annual examinations including waist measurements for people between the ages 40-74.
▶️ Individuals who exceeded the limit (85 cm for men, 90 cm for women) & who doctors found as Unhealthy had to compulsorily attend counseling sessions over the next 3 months to lose weight & make lifestyle changes.
▶️ Employers were required to ensure minimum 65% participation in examination & 25% reduction in Obesity by 2015 or face penalties upto 10% , which would go to fund elderly care.
🔵 One company was reported to have been fined upwards of $19000000 for not meeting the targets.

The message is loud & clear.
If you are Obese & Unhealthy, you are a liability on the healthcare system & the country itself.
Better get healthy or the you & your employer gets penalized.
