Bread = low T + high prolactin 🧬
Elevated prolactin has been shown to lower GnRH-induced release of LH and cause hypogonadism.
But why is this?
THREAD 🧡
Gluten (found in wheat products) is a powerful dietary opioid that increases prolactin and lowers LH and testosterone.
The increase in prolactin is due to the pro-opioid effect of gluten as well as the increase in inflammation induced by gluten intake.
Prolactin increase is correlated with the degree of intestinal damage (villous atrophy) and duration of damage.
Hypogonadism is a frequent finding in men with celiac disease, in fact, celiac disease can even result in infertility in some cases.
Common side effects of gluten consumption are constipation, fatigue, brain fog, low testosterone and sexual dysfunction.
Men with Celiac disease have elevated prolactin and it’s been found that doing a short term gluten-free diet lowers prolactin and increases their testosterone
If you are serious about optimizing your testosterone production and male health, eliminating wheat products/grains from your diet should be one of your first steps
