In this Tweet (by Ted & RT by Ted) he calls ketosis as an âevolutionary back up plan,â ânot meant to be a lifestyle,â and goes as far as to give the directive: âFind a Better Optionâ đŤľ
First, letâs be gentle and give him a âpointâ where heâs due.
First, letâs be gentle and give him a âpointâ where heâs due.
Ketosis is a âback-upâ in so far as evolving the ability to covert stored fat into brain fuel is beneficial for a species with an energetically expensive brain.
However, he clearly confuses the relevance of an evolutionary adaptation and its broad impact of metabolism with environmental circumstance that promoted its natural selection.
Ketones arenât just fuels, but potent signaling molecules: with cell surface receptors, broad epigenetic modification potential, and BHB is itself a post-translational modifier of 1,400 different proteins.
If all those big words are too much for Ted, the simple version is: âKetones do stuff to metabolismâ and âbrain like ketonesâ and âWe and our brains fucking evolved in the context and under the influence of ketosis!â
Next, he says keto isnât a lifestyle.
Next, he says keto isnât a lifestyle.
If what he means to say is we didnât evolve to be in ketosis 24/7, then he should have said that.
Instead he diminishes a dietary approach that is UNIQUELY beneficial for so many people who have failed alternative âconventionalâ approaches and feeds a stigma that presents on obstacle to many others who could benefit.
He doesnât leave any gray area â concluding his with a directive: âFind a better optionâ â as if he knows you and whatâs best for you.
Itâs Ignorant & Arrogant & Dismissive
So, why do I think he posted this Tweet? Easy.

Keto-Bashing is a strategy itself for getting attention of social media.
Itâs effective too, and particularly so if youâre so deficient in knowledge and behind the times that your advice for fat loss is âway fewer caloriesâ (literally the second pillar of his âfat loss 101â advice).
But all I see here is some wana-be influencer attacking a proven method for reversing metabolic disease either because heâs too ignorant to know better or because he does know better but is starved of attention. What do you think?
