🚨keto-bashing
Let’s breakdown why morons like @ted_ryce attack carbohydrate restriction and #keto for attention, but really have no idea what they’re talking about 👇
In this Tweet (by Ted & RT by Ted) he calls ketosis as an “evolutionary back up plan,” “not meant to be a lifestyle,” and goes as far as to give the directive: “Find a Better Option” 🫵
First, let’s be gentle and give him a ‘point’ where he’s due.
Ketosis is a “back-up” in so far as evolving the ability to covert stored fat into brain fuel is beneficial for a species with an energetically expensive brain.
However, he clearly confuses the relevance of an evolutionary adaptation and its broad impact of metabolism with environmental circumstance that promoted its natural selection.
Ketones aren’t just fuels, but potent signaling molecules: with cell surface receptors, broad epigenetic modification potential, and BHB is itself a post-translational modifier of 1,400 different proteins.
If all those big words are too much for Ted, the simple version is: “Ketones do stuff to metabolism” and “brain like ketones” and “We and our brains fucking evolved in the context and under the influence of ketosis!”
Next, he says keto isn’t a lifestyle.
If what he means to say is we didn’t evolve to be in ketosis 24/7, then he should have said that.
Instead he diminishes a dietary approach that is UNIQUELY beneficial for so many people who have failed alternative “conventional” approaches and feeds a stigma that presents on obstacle to many others who could benefit.
He doesn’t leave any gray area — concluding his with a directive: “Find a better option” — as if he knows you and what’s best for you.
It’s Ignorant & Arrogant & Dismissive
So, why do I think he posted this Tweet? Easy.
Keto-Bashing is a strategy itself for getting attention of social media.
It’s effective too, and particularly so if you’re so deficient in knowledge and behind the times that your advice for fat loss is “way fewer calories” (literally the second pillar of his “fat loss 101” advice).
But all I see here is some wana-be influencer attacking a proven method for reversing metabolic disease either because he’s too ignorant to know better or because he does know better but is starved of attention. What do you think?
