When people go on weight loss diets, many completely neglect their gut health, and this is something I’ve seen far too often
What many don’t realize is that having a healthy gut will actually make weight loss easier
To be clear, if you are overweight, losing it should be your number 1 priority. But that doesn’t mean you need to wreck your gut in the process
Our gut health plays a few important roles in weight loss:
-Gut bacteria can affect cravings
-A healthy gut will give you more energy to be active
-Nutrient absorption which affects our metabolic health
-A clearer mind, which affects our decision making and reduces stress
Besides that, gut health is extremely important for many parts of our health as well.
So, what can we do?
Stop falling for marketing tactics at the grocery store:
99% of foods labeled as low calorie, sugar free, etc are loaded with artificial sweeteners, gums, thickening agents that all negatively impact your gut health
We want the staples in our diet to be SINGLE INGREDIENTS; meat, eggs, seafood, produce, olive oil, etc.
If you follow this simple rule not only will it make weight loss easier, but it will also reduce the likelihood of eating something that is going to destroy your gut
These foods are not only far more nutritious, but are much easier to digest as well!
EAT SLOWLY:
Eating slowly increases the levels of hormones responsible for feeling full, reducing the likelihood of over eating
Taking small bites and chewing very well will also improve your digestion!
Bone broth:
You’ve heard about it a million times. The gelatin is bone broth is amazing for the gut.
But besides that, bone broth is an easy 10-20g of protein despite being very low in calories, and helps keep you full!
Kefir:
Another one you’ve heard of many times, because it’s powerful affects on the gut.

Go for a walk after a meal:
Going for a walk after you eat (even if it’s just 10 minutes) is a great way to burn some extra calories, improve your digestion and even reduce the glucose spike from the carbs you eat!
Reduce stress:
Obviously we can’t always avoid it, chronic stress can both negatively impact the gut and make weight loss harder.
Things like exercise, breath work, meditation etc can be useful tools.
Besides that, meal prepping in advance makes eating healthy much less stressful!
When we are committed to eating healthy, scrambling at the last minute to find something healthy can be stressful.
The last thing we want is to add more stress in your life, so having some food ready to go during a busy week can be very helpful!
