Every time I watch a movie from the 80s/90s, I LOVE seeing giant beams of light blasting out from the horizon. It’s the best and I will never care if it’s an unmotivated light source. I wish more modern filmmakers ditched the “natural” look of night scenes in exchange for this.
These two are from Near Dark, a movie I adore. Where is the lighting coming from? Who knows? Who cares! Look at how rich in atmosphere these two shots are and what they do for these shadowy characters operating within the boundaries of light. It’s the best!!
