Do you know The 400-year-old curse of Queen Alamelamma which wadiyar dynasty of Mysore still suffering
This two-minute thread will give you goosebumps! Spare just two minutes and read till the end x.com
The story goes that, back in 1612, there was a king called Tirumalaraja who ruled Srirangapatna, a city near Mysore.
The king was suffering from a disease for a long time and so, had gone on a pilgrimage to a temple in Talakadu to pray for his recovery. But the king did not get better.
While the king was away, his wife Queen Alamelamma was managing the kingdom. The queen soon heard that the king was dying.
So, she quickly decided to rush to Talakadu leaving behind the kingdom in the care of Raja Wadiyar, the king of Mysore.
Raja Wadiyar being an evil opportunist, occupied the kingdom in their absence as he had always planned of doing.
On knowing this, the queen took away all the precious family jewels which were preserved in the Ranganayaki temple to protect them and put them in a safe place as they were holy and ran towards Talakadu.
As Raja Wodeyar was a greedy man and wanted the precious jewels, he sent an army of soldiers alone to find her and the jewels.
The queen managed to escape for a while, but eventually she realised that she alone, could not anymore handle the army.
Understanding that the end was near, she climbed up a cliff, below which the Kaveri river was flowing and then decided to commit suicide by jumping into the river with the jewels because she believed her honour was much more important than her life.
She jumped into a whirlpool in the river Kaveri at Talakadu, however before jumping she prayed to Lord Vaidyanatheshwara that if I have been a true devotee of you throughout my life, then please grant me this dying wish when she cursed the entire Wadiyar dynasty that -
β€œTalakadu Maralagali, Malangi Maduvagali, Mysooru Arasarige Makkalaagadirali"
(May Talakadu become a barren land, Malangi turn into a whirlpool and may Mysore kings never ever have children).”
This curse which Alamelamma uttered turned out to be such an effective curse that till date the Wadiyar dynasty has not been able to get rid of it. It stands true till date.
The first curse especially is really unbelievable because the entire Talakadu region is very close to the river Kaveri.
The land which is supposed to be very fertile is actually barren and it is similar to a desert in Rajasthan.
Hearing about the queen's death and her curse, Raja Wadiyar repented, and hence he had an idol of Queen Alamelamma made in gold, placed in the Mysore palace, and worshipped her as a deity.
The queen has been worshipped ever since. Even today, there is a strand of her hair which is preserved in a box, and her huge pearl adorns the Goddess Ranganayaki.
