Detailed Overview of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia🔍
Club: Napoli
Nationality: Georgian
Position(s): LW, AM, ST
Preferred Foot: Both
Height: 6’0”/183cm
Age: 23
24/25 stats: 19GP, 5G, 3A
At 23 years of age, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is one of the most gifted footballers in world football.
There is no doubts over why Liverpool would be linked to him.
He is a world-beater. An individual who will influence the grandest of occasions.
With emerging reports that Liverpool could explore a deal for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, there is a need for a detailed report in the sphere.
Many have watched Khvicha from afar, without an intellectual interest in his game.
Due to Kvaratskhelia’s ambipedality + ball-striking, he is one of the most devastating two-way threats in the game.
Similar to an Ousmane Dembele, the Georgian’s complete comfortability on either foot makes him an incredibly unpredictable entity.
Face him tight on the touchline? He can beat you down the line on his left or cut inside on his right.
Face him inside the box? He can finish on his right or cutback on to his left and finish.
How do you stop this?
Liverpool do not possess a 1v1 dueller on the same stratosphere as Khvicha.
Averaging 6.55 take-ons per90 with a 53.7% success rate, there is no doubt that the Georgian winger is one of the most proficient 1v1 duellers in the game.
With lightning processing speed + elite ball manipulation, he has a solution for every problem he encounters.
In Napoli’s 2022/23 Scudetto-winning campaign, Kvaratskhelia contributed with 14 goals & 14 assists in 43 games.
This is the Georgian’s most profit campaign to date. At Liverpool, he has the potential output ceiling to consistently contribute 20G/20A seasons. x.com
Kvaratskhelia is a high-volume, low-xG shooter.
Despite averaging 3.95 shots per90 (Salah averages 4.03), he generates a 0.28 xG per90.
The reason for this: Khvicha loves a long-range attempt.
His complete self-belief in his ball-striking ability results in him attempting these ridiculous long-range efforts.
However, upon examination of every Khvicha goal for Napoli, the evidence showcases a potent goal-threat within the box.
Of the 30 goals Khvicha has scored for Napoli, 20 (67%) were scored with his right foot. 200 right-footed shots across 3 campaigns resulting in 20 goals.
The reason for Khvicha’s potency on his right foot is simple; his physical & technical makeup.
Angle-bias. Physical composition. Body orientation. The natural elements of a player.
Despite his ambipedality, Kvaratskhelia is naturally right angle-bias.
Look at the orientation & composition for Khvicha’s right-footed goals:
- arching [fluid] upper-body orientation
- fixed hips (always open)
- left-weighted distribution; opens up angle & options
- ‘sweeping’ striking action most common x.com
In 49 left-footed attempts, Khvicha has found the back of the net 10 times.
There is a “Goldilocks zone” where the Georgian winger attempts left-footed shots more often than any other zone.
Upon examining the footage, this is often manipulating the ball, cutting it back on to his left foot and firing towards goal.
This additional element of threat makes him a defender’s worst nightmare.
On Liverpool’s LW, Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz have averaged 3.37 & 3.17 shots per90 respectively.
In Slot’s current iteration, there is emphasis on the wingers to contribute with the majority of the goals.
Therefore, we could expect Khvicha’s numbers to match his Napoli numbers. x.com
Furthermore, the nature of Gakpo & Diaz’ shots are incredibly beneficial for a player like Khvicha.
25 of Gakpo’s 32 shots have come with his right foot. 25 of Diaz’ 37 shots have come with his right foot. This suggests that Slot encourages his LW’s to cut inside onto to their right foot.
With his aforementioned potency on his right foot, the Georgian winger could explode at Anfield.
Khvicha is one of Europe’s best ball-carriers with the Georgian averaging 5.78 progressive carries per 90.
Receiving the ball from deep, he has the ability to accelerate past opponents, ground-eating at ridiculous speeds whilst maintaining perfect control of the ball.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s physical profile allows him to be this devastating two-way, ball-carrying threat.
Standing at 6’, despite his stocky & boxy frame, all power generation derives from his lower-mechanisms. High calf insertion for pouncing to top speed. Prominent vastus lateralis to push off from the ground. Fluid hips.
Unstoppable composition.
Why is Khvicha such a devastating 1v1 dueller?
His aim is to disrupt your balance & cadence.
Upon receiving the ball, Khvicha instantly decelerates, coming to a near stop.
As the onrushing defender has too much momentum to slow down, he becomes vulnerable. Khvicha recognises this.
He deceives his intention with his body orientation, suggesting to the defender he will cut inside onto his right before snapping it down the left, past the helpless defender.
This is a genius at work.
There have been valid questions mark regarding Khvicha’s OOP contributions from the masses.
This is a fair concern.
Under Antonio Conte, he often utilises a 5-3-2 OOP shape to limit the exposure of Lukaku & Khvicha’s defensive contributions.
At this current point in time, Khvicha’s defensive work needs to improve. However, I have no doubt this will under Arne Slot.
He just simply will not accept anything else. It is not a matter of application from Khvicha. More so mental.
Liverpool cannot pass up on a market opportunity like this. They must sign Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
At only 23 years of age, Liverpool can secure their long-term LW as they aim to win the grandest of trophies this year.
It would be a statement of intent. Europe would sit up and take note.
