Nothing is innocent. There has been a systematic dehumanization of the Shia community as a whole and regions with large Shia presence for as long as I can remember. Anti-Shia sentiments have been ingrained in many people's minds to a point where they avoid anything "Shia". +
There's a huge stigma around Dahye specifically, and a lot of people refuse to even pass through it, claiming it's filthy and/or dangerous (both being objectively untrue: Dahye is a well-organized, bustling commercial hotspot). I knew people in LU (Hadath) branch who would -
- exclusively enter and exit through the East gate to avoid driving through Dahye, even if it meant longer trips. Big media and known parties in Lebanon are 100% responsible for this situation, which is why many people today act as if bombing Dahye or any Shia region in Lebanon -
- doesn't matter to them, or even call for Israel to exclusively bomb Shia areas and avoid other areas of Lebanon. Shia are, to many, brainwashed, inferior people, only because they refused to abide with the cultural and economic system imposed by the West. +
Therefore, in their collective mindset, Shias "deserve" to die, to pay for the position they took. This reflects, ideologically, in considering everything linked to the Shia community as a different culture that deserves to be erased, even if this implies literal genocide.
