Here’s something pleasant from WEST BENGAL. 😊👇
SHOLA BHAT ❣️
I had always spotted this during the festivals from West Bengal. Didn’t know what its called. 😃
SHOLA BHAT, also known as phool, is a plant that thrives in marshy areas. It can grow to a height of 5 to 6 feet.
The soft white core of shola plant, also known as pith, is called INDIAN CORK.
The SHOLAPITH or sholarkaj is a craft prevalent in West Bengal and portions of #Odisha.
It is utilised to construct a variety of religious and cultural artefacts. Malakars, or garlands makers, are craftsmen who work with sholapith.
The objects made with the shola today serve specific functions, such as the topor and mukut, traditional head accessories worn by the bride and groom in a Bengali wedding; and the daak-e-shaaj, or decorations used during DURGA PUJA festivities.
The sholapith craft is also well-known in Odisha, where it is used to make headgear for the god #Jagannath and his siblings during the #Rathayatra celebrations, as well as boats for the Boita Bandana or Bali Yatra festival, which takes place during Kartik Purnima.
In #TamilNadu, netti is another name for sholapith craft. Infor credit: MeMaraki.
