๐ŸšจWhat is Mpox?
Mpox, formerly known as monkeypox, is a viral disease that has been resurfacing in Nigeria. Itโ€™s caused by a virus similar to the one that causes smallpox, but itโ€™s less severe.
So far, about 39 cases have been reported in Nigeria by the @WHO.
๐ŸšจHow Does It Spread?
Mpox spreads through close contact with an infected person or animal. This includes touching their skin, body fluids, or clothing. It can also spread through respiratory droplets during prolonged face-to-face contact. Find more in the picture below.
๐ŸšจWhat Are the Symptoms?
Symptoms usually start with fever, headache, muscle aches, and tiredness. After a few days, a rash appears, often starting on the face and spreading to other parts of the body. The rash turns into fluid-filled blisters that eventually scab over.
๐ŸšจHow Serious is Mpox Disease?
Most people recover from Mpox within a few weeks without serious complications. However, Mpox can be more severe in children, pregnant women, and people with weakened immune systems.
๐ŸšจHow Can You Protect Yourself?
1. Avoid Close Contact: Don't touch anyone who has a rash or blisters that could be Mpox. If you must care for someone who's sick, wear gloves and a mask.
2. Wash Your Hands: Use soap and water frequently, especially after contact with sick people or animals. Very important please.
3. Avoid Wild Animals: Mpox can spread from animals to humans, so avoid contact with wild animals, especially if they are sick or found dead
๐ŸšจWhat Should You Do If You Think You Have Mpox?
If you notice any symptoms, especially a rash or blisters, see a doctor immediately. Early detection helps prevent the spread of this virus and ensures you get the care you need immediately.
๐ŸšจIs There a Vaccine for Mpox?
Yes, there is a vaccine for Mpox, but itโ€™s usually reserved for those who are at high risk, like healthcare workers. Your doctor can give you the best advice on whether you need it or not depending on the diagnosis or symptoms you present with.
๐ŸšจFinally,
Mpox is not something to panic about, but itโ€™s important to be aware and take steps to protect yourself and others. Simple actions like washing your hands, avoiding contact with infected individuals, and staying informed can help. #MPOX
