More About Wike’s Kinsman Who Delivered the “Infamous” Order to Restrict #EndBadGovernance Protesters in Abuja
This isn’t the first job he’d give his kinsman and, probably, won’t be the last but…
We can’t turn a blind eye to a seeming exploitation of “relations ties” by Wike, in obtaining the “infamous” judgement that aimed at stripping the #EndBadGovernance protesters the “right to free movement.”
On 31st July, 2024, Justice Sylvanus Chinedu Oriji delivered the judgement. He ordered protesters not to march in the roads of Abuja but converge and stay at Moshood Abiola Stadium.
So, literally, the protesters don’t have the right to protest on any roads in Abuja - they will only have to park themselves in the stadium, like “condemned goods,” assembled for auctioning.
Why Wike was bent on locking up the protesters in the Moshood Abiola Stadium didn’t seem obvious on the surface. However, the confession of a certain Abuja resident that he and many others were paid N5,000 to clash with protesters at the stadium gave some interesting pointers.
Was Wike expecting the protesters to be locked in the stadium with the armed anti-protest protesters? Well, we can deduce the answers.
But, of course, as expected, Abuja protesters defied the pesky “order” and marched on the streets to protest, in exercise of their rights, as the constitution guarantees.
The precursor…
Organizers of the protest had requested access to the Eagles Square, from Wike. But the “king-kong” of Aso Rock refused.
Rather, her ran to Abuja High Court to obtain a disquieting order, in an ex-parter application, to restrict the protesters. Eventually, it was his Kinsman, Justice Sylvanus who okayed the request.
Strikingly, Justice S.C. Oriji hails from the same place as Nyesom Wike - Obio/Akpor Local Gov’t Area of Rivers State. But that’s not all the details that raise eyebrows.
Earlier this year, particularly in March, Wike set up a team of “political faithfuls” and branded them Civil Service Commission for the FCT - of course, he took cover from the 2018 Civil Service Commission Act that Buhari signed.
He charged them to appoint nine permanent secretaries to oversee 9 different secretariats - including Agriculture and Rural Development, Transport and Economic Planning, Revenue Generation and Public Private Partnership, etc.
When it was time to swear the appointees in, Justice Orji would be the go-to person. Wike called on his brother to swear the new appointees and he delivered pretty well.
Surprisingly, the Chief Judge of the FCT High Court, Justice Husseini Baba-Yusuf, who ordinarily should handle the swearing-in, was absent.
Well, it seems as though Wike prefers his “brother” to handle very “personal judicial jobs” - for predictable reasons.
It may, also, interest inquisitive minds to know that Justice Orji is the presiding judge handling the fraud case of Former Aviation Minister, Hadi Sirika - the case has been a dramatic plot.
Anyways, not that the events pose any upset to “thinking” Nigerians but then, we can’t all shut our eyes to a seemingly brewing transaction of justice between two kinsman for illicit (personal) gains.
