Crypto Scammers stole $15.6B from people last year
I've spent 48 hours preventing all the scams
Follow this check list to protect yourself and your funds ๐Ÿงต๐Ÿ‘‡
โžค Here's what I'm going to cover โ†ด
โ€ข Secure your physical devices
โ€ข Smart Contract risks
โ€ข The top scamming tactics in 2023-2024
โ€ข My experience and examples
I'm done to see DMs, messages in different chats about the pain of my guys when they lose the funds
Recently, my good friend in this space @Foxi_xyz lost $110K on scam
I will change the situation, nobody will lose the funds anymore
โ—ข BASICS
2 basics where sometimes people screw up:
1. Public key is not private
PUBLIC key is like your bank account, just for getting cash
PRIVATE key is like an ATM Pin to your bank account
It proves your OWNERSHIP to this wallet
2. Seed Phrase
Write down this phrase on the list (not on your PC, but on the real paper)
If you lose it, you lose all your funds, remember it
โ—ข Buy A Cold Wallet
These are physical devices that hold your private keys
No transactions can happen unless you PHYSICALLY confirm them with your wallet
If somebody will want to scam you
They will need your physical approval
But real world robbers, can be dangerous for you
Buy a @ledger nano S straight from the website
DO NOT buy from Amazon or resellers (they can compromise the device before selling it to you)
If you can afford it, grab the Nano X over the Nano S. More storage and a sleeker interface
โ—ข How To Connect Cold Wallet to Metamask?
1. Unlock your MetaMask
2. Select the icon on the top-right corner
3. Select Connect Hardware Wallet
4. Choose Ledger or Trezor
5. Click connect
6. Select an account you want to interact with
Left the screenshots below โฌ‡๏ธ
โ—ข Don't let your seed phrases exist in the digital world
โ€ข Don't store them on dropbox
โ€ข Don't store them on a USB stick
โ€ข Don't store them on your password manager
Write your seed phrases down. But not on paper...
โ—ข Break Your Secret Phrase
If you are a happy owner of $1M+ on your wallet, I would recommend you to divide your secret phrase on 3-4 parts
And distribute it among your close family and hide in different places
Paranoid mode?
Maybe, but I will stay with my wealth and capital
โ—ข Where to hide your seed phrases?
Don't store them in a safe - too obvious. Get creative on where you hide them
I know one guy who has hidden his seed phrase in dumplings (it was in the dough instead of the meat)
And has frozen in his fridge
P.S. be more creative
โ—ข Secure Your Accounts
2FA Use Google's Authenticator app
DO NOT use SMS authentication
Hackers can get a duplicate sim card from your phone company (Because phone companies are stupid)
And then bypass your 2FA. Use the Google Authenticator app ONLY
โ—ข Use VPN
VPN is like the condoms of the internet
NEVER use public wifi without a VPN
The most secure is @ProtonVPN
They keep ZERO information about you or anything to identify you
โ—ข Limit Smart Contract Spending
Some smart contracts allow a protocol to spend an INFINITE amount of money
You're giving a blank check to a stranger
You can set limits with the Custom Spending Limit feature
โ—ข Be Careful About "fake" websites
If you don't use Ad Blocker, then in any browser, can be promoted higher the fake website and be in form of the first link
To prevent it, recommend you to bookmark all legit websites or write down them in any spreadsheet
On the screen showed
โ—ข Don't Keep Your Funds on CEXs
FTX has already shown what can become with any CEX
Moreover, it can be hacked, your funds can be frozen
Or regulated, as Binance does right now
โ—ข Official Pages Can Get Hacked
โ€ข Vitalik's account was hacked last year
โ€ข Or GCR account 1 week ago
Hackers target official discords and big Twitter pages now
Don't FOMO into things. Verify with others first
โ—ข Are You Comparing Addresses?
Some viruses can hijack your Clipboard to insert their own addresses
Whenever you're sending a transaction, make sure it's to the right address
Don't be lazy and verify just the last 4 digits of the address
Read and verify the whole thing
โ—ข Dust Attacks
Have you ever received unknown tokens out of nowhere into your wallet?
It could be a dust attack
They're trying to trick you into interacting with it
There could be malicious code in the smart contracts
THE MOST DANGEROUS! Many newbies lose everything on it
โ—ข Revoke Contracts
A protocol gets exploited. You're vulnerable. At that point, you should end the contract. You can use apps like:
@zapper_fi and @RevokeCash to revoke contracts or go to ecosystem scanners
For ETH, you can also use @etherscan, but revoke cash solves all
โ—ข Social Engineering
You can have the best security in the world, but you can still fall for scams and cons
Remember, scammers are living everywhere, you can't TRUST to anybody
So, be careful about people. Most of us are only manipulators
โ—ข Delete Your Private Cloud Data
One of the most underrated type of scam - through Windows vulnerabilities
In details, this method of scam was explored by @splinter0n and he has given a solution

โ—ข SIM Swap
SIM swap attacks exploit a fundamental vulnerability related to mobile phones and authentication
In these attacks, hackers target phone numbers and use them to steal passwords, financial data, crypto, and other valuable assets
