Seems like a good day to talk about consumer apps.
I found one built on @avax & I think it is one of the most practical examples of an app that uses blockchain to actually solve a real world problem.
If you are using a centralized password manager then you should read this🧵
@BitNote_xyz is one of the most impressive consumer apps live right now imo.
BitNote allows you to self-custody information, in a similar way that blockchains let you self-custody money.
It's a genuine replacement for 1Password & other centralized password managers.
I rely on 1Password currently for almost all of my passwords, but not my seed phrases/private keys, which remain on paper, as Last Pass proved centralized platforms can't be relied on.
1Password has been the best solution for me, but Bitnote can become the superior option.
BitNote features:
• BitNote is end-to-end encrypted and zero knowledge. All encryption happens locally on your machine
• Data is stored encrypted on Avalanche (which I trust a lot more than a centralized server run by any company)
• Open Source
• Permissionless
• No subs
For consumer apps to be widely adopted obviously the UX has to be great.
Creating an account is very quick & easy:
• Choose a username
• Pair with a yubikey (recommended), or choose a password
• Fund the wallet - send a small amount of avax (can export the key)
Here's how simple it is to create a note.
There are no subscriptions or ongoing fees. You pay just once to save a note and viewing a note is free.
You can also send these encrypted notes to other users, who can only access them if they are logged in with that username.
There are a ton of use cases for BitNote.
Here are some other ideas:
I hear the security nerds in the room ask if BitNote is quantum secure?
They use AES-256 for encryption. AES-256 is considered quantum resistant as long as your password contains at least 256 bits of entropy.
The US government use this for transmission of top secret info.
Personally, I will be creating encrypted notes to give detailed crypto instructions to my family in case anything happens to me.
I'm sure a lot of you are in the same boat, where if you suddenly passed away all of your crypto would be lost.
It's early days for BitNote, but having spoken at length with the founder, they will be building more products.
Decentralized succession is next.
The eventual plan is mobile UX to rival web2 counterparts.
This is entirely self funded currently. No VCs.
It's super refreshing to see useful non-speculative apps utilizing crypto infrastructure.
Highly recommend supporting @BitNote_xyz and giving the app a try.
Maybe being an early user also benefits you later down the line.
