Ideal Liverpool Assets ๐Ÿง
Before talking about the ideal Liverpool assets, it's important to be aware of their congested fixture run.
As this will be a key factor in determining assets who're more likely to start BOTH games in the Double.
There's ample rest before their UEL
2nd leg tie against Atalanta.
Klopp would likely give this fixture a go with his best team.
Key Liverpool assets who're subbed early make them ideal to start against Fulham.
Here's the MAIN part:
After the Atalanta game, Klopp's lads ONLY have a 2 Day rest for each of their..
Next 3 fixtures.
This means, some sort of rotation is likely.
Klopp takes sports science VERY seriously and there are quite a few players just coming back from injuries (Trent, Jota, etc).
They WILL BE managed.
I'd steer clear.
Which players to Target then?
The FITTEST players who've shown the ability to start games in congested runs in the past are more likely to be trusted to do so again.
This includes:
Mo Salah
Luis Diaz
Mac Allister
Van Dijk
Alisson
All have STARTED and played full 90's in congested runs in the past.
Ideal 3?๐Ÿง
Salah is a LOCK.
Captaincy plays a part.
As is Diaz, the likelihood of 2 starts automatically increases their ceiling.
Their recent numbers have been good.
They've ONLY kept 1 CS in their last 10.
Despite that I'm willing to bring in VVD.
Why? You'd know soon.
No Arsenal on Free Hit? ๐Ÿคจ
Sounds silly right?
But hear me out.
Take a look at the below run.
Compare this to Liverpool's.
Not a huge difference right?
There's one 'minute' difference that changes everything though.
And it's that where Pool had 3 days off before their UEL
game, Arsenal only have TWO.
And that remains the case for their next 3 games as well.
Add to this the fact that both Saka and Odegaard are carrying knocks.
Havertz has played a significant amount of minutes recently.
The travel involved, the intensity of the Bayern tie and
the "rest" before the game against a WELL RESTED Wolves after an physically excruciating affair.
Even if their assets miraculously play full 90, how effective will they be?
Would it surprise anyone if they LOSE?
Follow that up 2 days later with a demanding NLD against Chelsea.
All these factors considered, how high do you think their assets's ceiling is this week?
Is it as high as Liverpool's, Palace's, heck even Man Utd who play Sheff Utd at Home?
MORE thought needs to be given.
The question comes up, who fills the Arsenal sized void then?
Go Big on Crystal Palace? ๐Ÿ”ฎ
Here's the answer.
The signs were there already against Man City.
Signs that pointed to what was to come from Glasner's boys against Liverpool.
A performance at both ends of the pitch that rocketed up their appeal in my eyes for the Double.
Morale would be sky high.
A whole week off to relax and prepare for the first game of their double.
Key players like Olise coming back from injuries and accumulating minutes.
Almost the exact opposite of the situation at the Emirates.
West Ham and Newcastle, their opponents
are ranked 18th and 14th for xGC over the season.
The availability of attacking wingbacks.
A Defence that ranks 7th for xGC in the last 5.
A Dream Scenario for those on a Free Hit.
What are the options then?
Mateta
Olise
Eze
Munoz
Henderson
and more.
What's the ideal Palace Combination? ๐Ÿง
Looking at the fixtures, and considering the Arsenal sized void to be filled, a Double Up in attack makes sense.
Pick any two.
Wouldn't be against a Triple Up of Mateta+Eze+Olise either.
Wouldn't go for more than one defender.
Sleeping on Man Utd? ๐Ÿ˜ด
Amongst all the talk about the DGW fixtures, Utd quietly have arguably THE BEST single game of GW 34.
Sheffield Utd at Home.
Comfortably the worst defensive side after Luton over the season.
Utd themselves are the worst defensive side over the last 5.
Wilder's boys are done parking the bus and have decided, if they're to go down...they'll go down swinging.
Expect a Goal Fest.
With Utd's individual quality being enough to pip Sheff Utd.
I would steer clear of their defenders.
But their attackers are GOLD MINE ๐Ÿช™
None more so than their Captain.
5 Goals and 2 Assists in his last 7 Games, blanked only ONCE during that period.
Sky's the ceiling for him this week.
Penalties are a Bonus.
I don't mind a punt on any of Hojlund, Garnacho or Rashford if you're willing to go there.
HaCunha-Mateta ๐Ÿฆ
With the quality of midfield options available this week and Solanke being all but nailed as a starter, there can only be one of Cunha or Mateta in our teams.
It'd be ideal to analyse them first on an individual basis and then on a team basis.
Let's dive ๐Ÿ‘‡
Matheus Cunha ๐ŸฆŠ vs JP Mateta ๐Ÿ”ฎ
Mins: 2130 vs 1842
Goals: 11 vs 7
Assists: 6 vs 4
xG: 9.41 vs 7.67
xA: 3.76 vs 2.89
NPxG/90: 0.37 vs 0.30
NPxGI/90: 0.52 vs 0.44
The stats suggest Cunha has posted better non-pen numbers but there isn't much b/w them.
Also Cunha has 'slightly' overperformed his xG and xA numbers, while Mateta's output has been in line with his numbers.
Let's look at their Team's recent numbers:
xG over the Last 5 GWs:
Wolves: 7.21
Palace: 7.95
Again, not much b/w the team's numbers either, both sides have
had decent fixtures, though Palace have had the slightly more trickier run having played both City and Liverpool.
Fixtures:
Cunha: ARS (H) + BOU (H)
Mateta: WHU (H) + NEW (H)
Mateta has the slightly better fixtures, but there isn't much considering Cunha faces a tired Arsenal.
VERDICT: In Isolation I'd lean towards Mateta simply because of his marginally better fixtures and the fact that Cunha has just come back from injury.
PS: All the stats used in this thread have been taken from understat.com.
Free Hit Draft ๐Ÿƒ
I mentioned earlier I'd lean towards Mateta over Cunha, but I've gone for Cunha here as that allows me to have Munoz instead of an Arsenal defender whom I expect no CS from this week.
Bruno's ceiling > Saka/Odegaard.
Both Sa and Pickford are decent ๐Ÿงค picks.
Captaincy ๐ŸŽฉ
Salah's the obvious and safe pick.
xMins shouldn't be an issue assuming Atalanta hold on for 90 mins.
But if not Mo, I'd go Solanke.
Talisman, On pens, Great Fixtures, etc etc.
Cunha/Mateta would be the left field picks.
๐Ÿฅ‡ Salah
๐Ÿฅˆ Solanke
๐Ÿฅ‰ Cunha/Mateta
That's all from me this week!
