The cost of perfectionism is the life you could’ve lived.
How to get over perfectionism (and not overthink everything):
Perfectionism is a disease that plagues most founders.
Trying to be perfect costs far more in the long run than making mistakes in the short term.
It leads to overthinking, delays, and missed opportunities.
How to overcome it and achieve extraordinary results:
Done Is Better Than Perfect
Adopt this as your guiding principle. Don't wait for things to be flawless before shipping.
When building Bitmaker, I launched after selling 30 spots - before having spare computers, instructors, or a finished curriculum.
Execution > Indecision
Perfectionism Is An Illusion
It doesn't exist. It’s a mirage that constantly tells you you’re not good enough.
What matters more is rapidly learning by constantly sharing your work and iterating.
There’s no better teacher than testing your ideas in the open market.
1% Better
"If you get one percent better each day for one year, you'll end up thirty-seven times better by the time you're done." - James Clear
So focus on improving, day by day.
Relentlessly seek growth and lean into discomfort in the timeless game of Mastery.
Get Comfortable Being Uncomfortable
Write daily. Publish daily. Iterate on your product. Don't be precious about your work.
I share my writing journey daily across Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and my newsletter.
Consistency is king in this game.
The Cycle For Success
Ship → Learn → Iterate → Repeat
Facebook didn’t launch the perfect product. They tested, learned, and iterated.
Strength lies not in intelligence but in the ability to ship things that are 80% done.
Learn by doing, not just by thinking.
Start Now. Hit Publish.
Don't overthink. Share your work with the world and iterate in public. Perfection is the enemy of progress.
I put in the reps. I read and write every day, listen to endless podcasts, and refine my own operating system.
This is how I build leverage.
Take Massive Action Daily
Despite tough times building Bitmaker, I focused on taking action daily.
Emailing 2000 people, constantly talking to others - betting that one connection could change everything.
Targeted action increases your surface area for luck.
Hone Your Craft, Seek Out Growth
Embrace an experimenter's mindset - test ideas daily. Let curiosity drive you forward.
Research shows those with a growth mindset are more likely to persist through setbacks.
View challenges as opportunities for true growth.
Embrace the Process
Fall in love with the small wins along the way.
Perfectionism is a curse that blinds you from seeing how far you’ve come.
Remember that you can’t see the finish line from the start.
The gold is found along the journey, not just at the end.
This is my cure for perfectionism.
Optimize your systems for growth. Take massive action daily. Seek learning everywhere you go.
Embrace a beginner's mindset, hone your craft, and celebrate small wins.
Do this, and it will be impossible not to fall in love with the process.
P.S. If you like proven systems, you'll love my weekly newsletter (it's free).
