When you start learning Statistics you may feel there are a million things to memorize.
You're wrong.
What you need is 5-6 basic concepts. Everything else is built around them.
Here are 6 Statistical principles to begin with:
1. Central tendency
Mean, mode, and median are measures that offer quick insights into the 'center' of the data.
It helps to see what a "normal" data point looks like in a group.
We hear about these measures a lot, so it's good to know them well.
2. Data visualization
Visuals are not just fancy but they are super useful.
They make the complex understandable.
Basic tools like histograms, bar graphs, and scatter plots help with interpretation and communication of data.
3. Sampling techniques
Without good samples, there is no analysis. They are crucial for accurate and reliable results.
If you work with data knowing your source is key.
4. Correlation
In Statistics, we want to answer the why.
Correlation helps with that.
With a good association analysis, you can find relationships, and patterns, and make accurate predictions.
5. Distributions
Those beautiful bell curves tell you more than you would think.
Many advanced techniques rely on assumptions related to distribution.
At this point, you will touch probability as well. Another fun topic to explore!
6 Biases & Tricks (My favorite)
Statistics is a weapon.
You can use it to tell lies while you sound smart.
That's dangerous, so we must understand biases to evaluate information critically.
