Liberals, leftists and Ricebags believe (and blatantly lie) that Christianity gave education to the depressed classes in India. Here's something they should know:
1. Firstly, I'm not upper caste, but OBC. In fact, this truth makes them hate me more. In their warped view, if I'm from a lower caste, I cannot be pro Hindutva. I have to play the victim card.
2. Until the Temple Entry Proclamation of 1936, my Ezhava community wasn't allowed inside Kerala temples. In fact, we were not allowed on the side roads outside the temples. Incredibly, Christians, Muslims and animals (bulls, cows and stray dogs), were free to walk on these streets that were banned for us. This was Apartheid before the whites invented Apartheid in 1948.
3. To illustrate, in pre-1936 Travancore, a Chanar (an aristocratic Ezhava), had to get down from his car and walk through the muddy paddy fields along the main road while his Muslim driver could drive up the road and wait for his master at the point where Ezhavas could legally travel on the road.
4. Did Christians offer education to Ezhavas? The answer is no. But it didn't matter as we weren't after their schools. Ezhavas, being the most Sanskritized of all the depressed classes, rapidly built modern schools and new Vedic temples - led by Sri Narayana Guru. And what did the Christians do? In the 1920s the Christians joined hands with Savarnas to demolish many of these schools and temples. The Christian contribution to the education of the depressed classes was thus negative and destructive.
5. Here I must add that Ezhavas are not a helpless commmity that can be freely attacked. Ezhavas were around 22% of the population of Travancore and were experts in the martial arts with a 1,000 year tradition of Kalari. The reason the Christians and Savarnas were able to demolish the new Ezhava schools was that Gandhi had forced nonviolence on the Ezhavas and the Travancore police were backing the attackers. So it was an opportunistic and cowardly attack.
6. So yes, Christians brought 'modern' education to Kerala but it was not due to noble intentions, but purely as soul vultures - to destroy Hinduism and to convert the whole of Kerala, and India, to Christianity. But even while introducing this so called modern education, they did not offer it to the depressed classes. See the hypocrisy?
7. Therefore, Never believe the white lies of Christians that they brought modern education to India. Their so-called education was no different from the fake service rendered by Teresa - the mother of all soul vultures.
Must add this very important point. The youth among the Namboodiri Brahmins and Nairs joined Ezhavas in the temple entry movement. Sri Narayana Guru himself was inspired by Chattambi Swami of the Nair community. So modern Savarnas need not feel guilt for the laws created under British rule. For, it was the British who fixed the caste system as it is today. There was no rigid vertical heirarchy before the European Christians conquered India.
