ONE PIECE THEORY
Roger's Mission and Luffy's Fate
In this theory, I'll explain what was Roger's Mission in the story.
🔍 To answer this question, we'll go through 4 main points.
1. The purpose of Roger's travel.
2. Roger's Strawhat and Shanks.
3. Roger and Rayleigh.
4. Roger and Oden's journal.
Let's get started!
1. The purpose of Roger's travel.
Roger became a pirate because he wanted to turn the world upside down.
During his journey, Roger visited multiple islands and found all of the poneglyphs, leading him to the final island: Laugh Tale.
When Roger reached the final island, he found all of the secrets that were present during the void century.
He was the first one to reach the island for 800 years!
Roger just laughed and he wished he'd been born in JoyBoy's time!
Roger's sentence "Oh JoyBoy, I wish I'd been born in your time" can have a dual meaning:
- Roger wishes to have been born in the past
- Roger wishes to have been born in the future
Roger wished to have been born in JoyBoy's era.
Roger was too early to find the One Piece because both Shirahoshi and JoyBoy were not born.
He hoped that his son would be the next one to find the One Piece.
(@3SkullJoe obligatory mention for the profile picture)
I believe that Roger couldn't be JoyBoy because he didn't intend to face the Celestial Dragons and World Government.
Roger freed Celestial Dragons in God Valley, which goes against the liberation aspect of Nika so he couldn't be JoyBoy, even if he had the Nika devil fruit.
Then, Roger contracted an incurable disease and gave his son to his friend Garp so he would take care of him in Foosha Island, and surrendered to be executed.
During his execution day, Roger started the great era of piracy, so JoyBoy would become a pirate to find the One Piece.
Roger successfully managed to turn to the world upside down by starting a great age of piracy that would bring JoyBoy, who would face the World Government, surpass him and his legend, and bring the Dawn of the World.
Roger, who was a D., successfully caused another storm by turning the world upside down. A storm that would one day end up with the sun rising again, by bringing JoyBoy (Luffy).
However, Roger checkered Luffy's fate as Luffy wants to become the Pirate King, like Roger.
Like Roger said, Destiny, Fate and Dreams are unstoppable ideas held deep in the heart of man. As long as there are people who seek freedom in this life, these things shall not vanish from the Earth.
Roger checkered Luffy's fate as he wants to become the Pirate King like Roger but this "checkered fate" stems from Luffy's desire to seek freedom in this life.
For Luffy, the pirate king is the "one who is the most free".
2. Roger's Strawhat, Shanks and Luffy.
Since Roger knew JoyBoy's story from Laugh Tale, he knew that for JoyBoy to come back, one had to awaken the Nika devil fruit.
So, Roger asked Shanks to steal the fruit from CP9 and bring it to JoyBoy, who he thought it would be Ace!
So, Shanks stole the Nika devil fruit and went to Foosha Island to probably give it to Ace!
However, it was Luffy who ate the Devil Fruit instead.
Roger had probably given his Strawhat to Shanks so he finds the future JoyBoy and Pirate King.
Shanks put his faith on Luffy being this man, instead of Ace, because he pronounced the same words than Roger!
Like Kuma, Shanks put his faith on Luffy without knowing in advance that he would be the one to become JoyBoy.
Luffy's desire for freedom made people revolve around him, like planets around the Sun.
They want Luffy to succeed because his desire for freedom can free the world.
3. Roger and Rayleigh.
Rayleigh knew about all One Piece as he was in Laugh Tale and he knew that they were too Early to find it.
Rayleigh was impatient to meet Luffy after what Shanks had told about him.
So Rayleigh took over Shanks' mission and took care of Luffy.
Rayleigh trained Luffy and pushed him to surpass himself, so he would one day awaken the Nika devil fruit.
4. Roger and Oden's journal.
Finally, after Kuma, Shanks and Rayleigh put their faith on Luffy, it was the turn for Oden.
Yamato found Oden's journal and is carrying Oden's will.
Oden's journal is a logbook of his adventure with Roger.
Yamato knew about JoyBoy thanks to Oden's journal.
Oden's journal depicts the future and Yamato knew that JoyBoy would be the one to defeat Kaido.
So, after Kuma, Shanks, and Rayleigh, it was Yamato through Oden's will who put her faith on Luffy.
At the end of the day, Luffy awakened the Nika devil fruit and became JoyBoy.
Conclusion.
- Roger started the Great Age of Pirates and made Luffy become a pirate.
- Shanks stole the Nika devil fruit that was eaten by Luffy.
- Rayleigh trained Luffy and pushed him to fight freely and overcome his limitations.
- Oden, through Yamato, brought JoyBoy back.
Roger and his pirates turned the world upside down, checkered Luffy's fate and brought JoyBoy back to the world.
A checkered fate that stems from Luffy's desire to seek freedom.
A desire of freedom that made multiple people put their faith on Luffy, who would later become JoyBoy and Nika.
Roger, Kuma, Shanks, Rayleigh, Oden... all put their faith on who would latter become JoyBoy/Nika.
I wonder if the remaining Roger pirates will also help Luffy somehow?
Wil Scopper Gaban help the Strawhats later?
