1. Caspian Sea
- Largest salt lake globally
- Drained by the Volga & Ural river systems
- World's largest inland body of water, located east of the Caucasus Mountains

2. Lake Baikal (Russia)
- Ancient & continental rift lake
- Deepest freshwater lake globally, Largest by volume
- Fed by 330 rivers, including the Selenga, Barguzin, Upper Angara, Turka & Sarma
- 27 islands, with Olkhon ranking as the 3rd largest lake-bound island
3. Aral Sea
- Former endorheic lake located between Kazakhstan & Uzbekistan.
- Undergoing significant disappearance and drying on a large scale
- It was once the 4th Largest lake globally
4. Dead Sea
- Also referred to as the Salt Sea
- Earth's lowest elevation on land
- Situated between Jordan to the east and Palestine and West Bank to the west
- Known for its extremely high salt concentration, making it one of the saltiest bodies of water globally
5. Great Lakes USA
Connect to the Atlantic Ocean via the Saint Lawrence Seaway

- Lake Michigan holds the distinction of being the largest lake entirely within one country.
6. Lake Turkana & Lake Rudolph
- Located: Northern Kenya and Ethiopia
- The largest permanent desert lake globally
- Holds the distinction of being the world's largest alkaline lake

- Bordered by Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda
- Largest lake in Africa. 2nd largest freshwater lake globally by surface area
- The source of the Nile River is traced to the rivers that flow into Lake Victoria

- Significantly shrunken due to climate change and water diversion
- Positioned in the highlands of the Altiplano & Originally a saline lake
