I don’t understand how/why people hated #Animal or found it misogynist or demeaning women
I don’t understand the uproar around the movie, calling Sandeep Venga Reddy mentally unwell, toxic masculinity.
Animal would go down in history as an iconic Indian movie. Thread

Let’s unpack Ranbir’s character, he is not shown as a NOT toxic person. His father is a toxic person, his childhood is toxic, so why would his character not have elements of toxic masculinity. It’s NOT shown in good light/ inspiring, it’s shown as intriguing.
Does toxic masculinity or toxic femininity for that matter, not deserve to be shown on screen, should we not unpack it, should we not make honest attempts to understand it ?? How do we do it without going to roots of it ??
Let’s unpack the elements of domestic violence against Rashmita. As a victim of DV when I was 19-20, does it help any victim to just NOT talk about it, or does it help whole society - both men & women, to understand how we reached there, what happened, how to pause/stop it.
The key, and absolutely mind blowing potrayal of toxic parenting, which honestly so many of us are victims of. Including yours truly. Children expect love & care from their parents, & when they don’t get it - it does leave them fairly traumatized for life, in whatever format.
@SandeepVangaa has executed the childhood traumas & its lifelong implications in an absolutely impeccable manner. Forget father-son bond, mother-daughter bonds of similar nature also have fairly terrible outcomes, and for a whole adult Indian/ global generation,
@SandeepVangaa I can’t think of any other movie which even puts in words, what a grown up child feels about their parents neglect in their childhood. A million love stories are made in Hollywood/Bollywood, rare parent-child relationship dramas.
@SandeepVangaa Let’s talk about Ranbir’s violence towards his wife, what else do we expect from a character who murdered 100+ people ? Would it make any sense for that character to not face some spillover of that remnant violence/adrenaline towards his family/loved ones ?
@SandeepVangaa The acting by every single actor and the music was absolutely out of the world. In fact, I might have to watch the movie again to relish it truly coz first time I was just looking for places to get offended.
@SandeepVangaa I forgot Anil Kapoor was Anil Kapoor and not Balbir. Ranbir wasn’t Ranvijay. Rashmika not Geetanjali.
Unlike Alia in 2 states, Geetanjali had perfect authentic South Indian accent.

@SandeepVangaa Lot of people commented on limited role of actresses, to romance/marriage/childbirth/sex - the role of Bobby Deol was far shorter, limited to violence. Those asking/empathizing for more role/screen time for actresses never asked/empathized for same for Bobby Deol
