A Friday night/end of week kidney reflection🧵
1. Too few other doctors realise that kidneys are one of the most important organs in blood pressure regulation & thus HYPERTENSION. For every 10 eGFRs changes I get asked about-a minority mention current BPs let alone duration/trend
2/🧵so top tip is that GPs are the best at coding long term conditions so look at their referral letters & if you see "2003-Hypertension" & a 65-year-old now, that's telling re longer term CV & CKD risks. It will help in stroke-HFpEF-CKD assessments & memory clinic now or later!
3/🧵Another element we're poor at conveying is importance of proteinuria testing/meaning. eGFR gets way more credence I suspect because of junior doc exposure managing AKIs-hyperK. Latter important but it comes from CKD & it's progression is preventable! ENDS #MedEd#NephJC
