Is your Kids spending so much of time on iPad/Phones/TVs? No matter how hard you try, still is he/she spending more hours on it? Me and my friends also face the same problem. Here's what I did that really helped a lot in changing my kids behaviour. ๐งต
It all starts at an early age, in order to make them eat you start giving them a phone, playing some random YouTube videos. It gets the kids attention. Then as he grows, in order to keep them busy, so that they dont disturb us, we give the phones. This habit sticks to them.
You cant simply grab the phone from your kid, when you continue to chat with your friends on whatapp group. The only way to stop your kid from using the device is, first you need to reduce your screen time. Remember kids are watching and copying everything you do.
The first thing we do once we wake up is checking our phone and the last thing we do before we go to bed is checking our phone. No matter what kind of profession we are into, there is always some notifications and we get the urge of responding to all such notifications.
Before I go to bed, 9pm to 10pm is no device zone. None of us at our home checks our phone before going to bed. I have this habit of reading a chapter from a book every day. My wife started reading a book of her choice, seeing me reading a book every day for an hour in the night
And seeing both of us, my kid wanted to read,so he picked up a book of his choice, he started reading, Diary of a Wimpy Kid. He is 9 years old and said he could relate to the character mentioned in the book. Then onwards it has become a habit for him. Slowly screen time reduced.
Then he asked, "Do you know what makes me happy?". Curious to know, I asked him back whats that? He said, "Learning new things". I was taken aback when he answered that. At that very moment, he made me realise he is so damn right.
Once we grow up, we caught up in the rat race and fail to notice it. Only if learning new things helps us with any monetary benefits, we go after that. It's been ages since I stopped learning something new. But for kids, the pure joy of learning something wants them to learn more
Just find their interest and provide them a platform where they can decide what they want to learn. It can be anything. My kids wants to learn how to solve Rubik's cube, I found a best tutor from Bangalore, where he joined this one hour session a week. Now learnt how to solve it
Earlier he was curious to learn Badminton, later he wants to learn Roller Skating, took him to a class at Decathlon. Once he learnt it, the curiosity fades. That's why kids hate to go for any repetitive class. So don't be worried if they don't want to continue any classes.
No of hours I spent during my early years of trading is immense. During the day, most of the time is gone watching the markets 9 to 3, post market closing most of the time was spent on analysing, backtesting, watching US markets in the night, worrying about next day market open
Working in IT during night shifts + Trading in the morning took lot of my health, time n efforts. During that time my kid was born, by the time I realised what I was doing, I have lost initial three precious years of my kids time. I wish I could have spent more time with him.
That's when I decided to stop manual trading and move to rule based completely. If there is one thing it has given me now, is TIME. More than money, it's the freedom I enjoy the most. Doing what you want, where you want. Focus more on health, less on wealth.
