Today, we're releasing new data showing that our national office & chapters received 1,283 requests for help & complaints of anti-Muslim or anti-Palestinian discrimination over the past month. This is a 216 percent increase over the previous year. More details in thread... 1/9
People submitting complaints including a wide variety of Americans, including public school and college students, doctors and other workers, protestors, and others targeted because of their faith and/or their advocacy for Palestinian human rights. 2/9
At our national headquarters, the largest number of complaints involved First Amendment free speech issues (23%), followed by employment discrimination (20%), hate crimes (15%) and education and bullying (9%). 3/9
In addition to the complaints we directly receive, we have been tracking publicly reported incidents of bias directed at the Muslim and Palestinian communities. 4/9
These incidents includeĀ at least oneĀ murder, two attempted murders, numerous violent threats, the use of vehicles as weapons to target protesters, and incidents involving guns being discharged or brandished to threaten supporters of Palestinian human rights. 5/9
This surge in hate incidents has been enabled by the dehumanizing, anti-Palestinian and anti-Muslim rhetoric used to both justify violence against Palestinian civilians in Gaza and silence supporters of Palestinian human rights in America. 6/9
Political leaders, corporations, media outlets, civic organizations and others all have a role to play in ending this surge in bigotry, which is the largest wave of bias we have documented since 2015. 7/9
The first stepĀ @POTUSĀ and members of Congress can take to combat the surge in Islamophobia, anti-Palestinian racism and other forms of bigotry is to stop enabling and justifying the violence in Gaza that is contributing to unrest and conflict here at home. 8/9
