A📜 on the tributes and legacies of Panipat from works of various historians and scholars➡
(It'll debunk the everyday mocking of Panipat by extremists and supremacists)
Major Evans Ball writes of the valor shown by the Marathas and of the impact of the severe losses faced by the Afghans.
"The victorious (Afghans) retired...never again interfered in the Indian politics"
Scott Waring expresses his views over the conflict in 1810, less then 50 yrs of the battle. He notes down how the entire strength of the Afghan army was inflicted upon the Marathas, who held under Bhau.
Harry Arbuthnot Ackworth translated a ballad famous among the locals of the battle.
"The defeat...terrible..the Marathas suffered...but the Afghan losses were immense...and Ahmed Shah never again interfered in Indian affairs"
H.G Rawlinson the famed British historian comments on the battle in the following words:
"A defeat, is under some circumstances, as honorable as a victory, and never in their annals...Marathas...greater glory...when the...Deccan forces...perished on Panipat...against enemies."
Rudyard Kipling, the renowned English author and poet paid his respects to the heroes who fell in the battlefield for the honour and defense of their nation.
WH Tone, a British adventurer says of the battle, around 30-40 yrs after the conflict. His statement is of immense value for it shows how the losses of Panipat were nullified and how little did it impact the Marathas, who within few years regained everything they'd lost.
The Grand Wazir of the Durrani Empire states the plight of the Durranis running hither-tither. 5K of the elite troops were killed with few hours. Out of 20K troops (some estimate it to be 30-35K), only 200 remained with the Wazir (~1%).
"Kabul is farway, whether you run or fly!"
Ahmed Shah himself writes in his letter to Madho Singh, praising the bravery of the 'dauntless Marathas'.
His submissive letter to the Peshwa compared to the previous letters speaks for itself (all attached below⬇)
Kashi Raj, the Dīwan of Shuja-Ud-Daulāh praises the valor of the Marathas in defending their homeland.
"Whatever could be expected from the human valor, you (Marathas) have done..."
Naro Shankar notes down how little was the impact of Panipat over the Maratha hegemony in the North.
Abdali's Vakils pledge to restore the Maratha authority in the North for some villages in the Deccan!
All of these snippets are not even 5% of the *actual research* done on the results of the Panipat Campaign. These are enough to burn the heap of propaganda mocking the 3Rd Battle of Panipat.
