Navratri traditions in Amritsar #Punjab
Every year during Shardiye Navratri, the local Hindus of #Amritsar celebrate #Navratri by dressing their children like Hanumanji and pay their obeisance at Bada Hanuman Mandir at #DurgianaMandir complex.
Every year around 5000 boys would dress as Hanumanji for around 10 days till #Dussehra
Children, who dress up as Hanumanji and their parents, have to follow a strict regime by following all rules that sworn celibates or #Brahmcharis do during the Navratri period
Children usually remain bare feet, sleep on the floor, consume #Satvik food, shun finery.
And they observe it strictly and worship at the temple two times during Sandhya Kaal every day.
In this region, worship of Maa Durga is linked with worship of Hanumanji.
This tradition stems from the story of Vaishno Devi of Trikuta mountains of #Jammu for whom Shri Ram Chandra himself ordered Hanumanji to guard the Devi's shrine.
The Durga Chalisa which is attributed to Devi Das, mentions that Lion riding Bhavani is guarded by Veer Laangur (Hanumanji)
केहरि वाहन सोह भवानी ।
लांगुर वीर चलत अगवानी ॥
And That is the reason why during Navratri Kanjak Puja (Kanya Puja) in Jammu, Kangra and Northern Punjab, young boys are also worshipped along with Kanya(s).
This is because boy is regarded as representation of Hanumanji and girl is regarded representation of Devi.
The festival of Navratri is also the festival to commemorate the "Veer Ras". It is the time to remain strict and remain absorbed in worship.
And that is the reason why Maa Durga or Bhagwan Ram Chandra or Hanumanji are worshipped in the 10 days from Navratri till Dussehra.
