This looked like Guardiola’s plan to me:
Drop Kovacic to the left of Bernardo Silva with the intention of attracting Gabriel Jesus.
Outnumber Arsenal in Central Midfield. 3v2 here. The shape did also look like a diamond - at times - with Alvarez higher & Foden as a 10.
Find the spare man then look to attack the space in front of Gvardiol, with Jesus attracted to Kovacic infield.
Alvarez overran the ball on this occasion.
Man City missed Rodri’s ability to switch the play. Nearly all passing was short, low. Some more switches would have helped
Worked a few times but the final ball was missing.
Would be nice to see Haaland mix his runs up at times. Nice gap for him to attack here but he always prefers to move towards the far post. I suppose he is opening up space for Alvarez.
Here is Gvardiol overrunning Jesus again. And Haaland attacking the far post rather than the centre/near.
When Saliba goes out to defend the wide areas he really should be attacking - at least - the middle of the goal.
