/ First, some back ground - see this thread on the 2022 event. The organizers decided to re-do their logo into something more "tactical" compared to the more "cultural" one from last year.
/ First day a a half will be devoted to lectures at the Novgorod Scientific and Technical School (NTSH), and the other day and a half to exhibitions and tests will be at an airport near Borky. Both addresses are public in the screen shot below. t.me
/ This is a much more professional undertaking than last year. The 2022 event was driven by people who were still trying to understand how volunteers and developers are impacting the war.
/ Screengrab from the opening address today: "UAVs are a Russian answer to our demography - instead of birthing an army of soldiers, we have to "birth" an army of (their) mechanical doubles (robots)." t.me
/ This year, the lectures and seminars will cover the following topics: The problem of information transmission in the reconnaissance and fire contour - one year later; The problem of evaluating the effectiveness of the use of small-sized strike UAVs;
/ A promising direction for organizing UAV strike units as a tool for a combined arms commander; #AI technology for UAVs; Ensuring the breakthrough of the Ukrainian's long-term defense and the development of success in depth by UAVs of the High Command's Reserve Forces;
/ and methods for detecting and selecting drones as targets, and ways to neutralize them. Along with UAVs, this year's Dronnitsa focus will also be on ground, surface and subsurface robotic and autonomous systems.
/ The organizers are also bringing together volunteers and other efforts providing other war-related materials and supplies for an exhibition and exchange of lessons and experiences. t.me
/ Abstracts from Dronnitsa opening day lectures on the strategy of victory and the concept of the war of tomorrow: "At the beginning of the 20th century there was a military motorization race. Those who did not make it in this race were simply written off. Now the same thing is…
/ "Any military is a machine built of people and operating on the basis of algorithms. Phase dominance in a new type of war is the construction of an "inhuman" army, where the widespread use of "smart" mechanisms will exclude a person from a gigantic number of processes."
/ "The army of the future should not consist of people, but of man-machine systems. People already need to be taught to interact with machines, machines need to be taught and trained to interact with people. The resulting man-machine systems will also have to be taught how to…
/ "The main outcome of the hostilities in the summer of 2023 is the realization by all of the positional impasse. We have learned to defend ourselves, but so far neither they nor we know how to attack. The decisive factor in this impasse..."
/ "...was the qualitative increase in the accuracy of fire provided by unmanned reconnaissance and correction, as well as new types of guided munitions. To overcome this impasse, it is necessary to form a new offensive war doctrine."
/ "In it, drones should become an end-to-end TECHNOLOGY for all types and branches of the military. Today, the battlefield is covered in the fog of war. One of the main difficulties: to decide where one's own, where someone else's drones are located."
/ "Thus, the unmanned vehicle losses from one's own electronic warfare and air defense systems often exceed similar losses from enemy systems. But the human losses from confusion and "friendly fire" are very high. At the same time..."
/ "...the drones themselves are the first "anti-fog" system which allows you to clarify the combat situation. Working identification systems like “friend or foe” are vital. Ideally, we need devices for each infantryman to..."
/ "...accurately understand everything: one’s own position, where you can’t shoot, where you can’t jam, such and such drones are flying at a certain speed."
/ "UAVs today are the Russian answer to the dialectic of our demography and our ambitions. We will have to fight a lot just to exit, but the old Russian adage about “women will still give enough births (to future soldiers)” is no longer relevant."
/ "If an army of people remains in the next war, then the exchange rate for losses for such an army will be ten times higher compared to an army of drones. Therefore, instead of giving birth to an army of soldiers, it is necessary to create an army of mechanical doubles."
/ "A human is vulnerable, and part of human vulnerability is uniqueness. The modern task is to replace a man with a machine on the battlefield, where the machine becomes a "double" of a man that has all the advantages, but is devoid of his shortcomings."
/ More on drone warfare during the first day: "Simply saturating the ground units with UAVs is not enough. We need operational solutions. There is an acute issue of creating a separate UAV command In the ground forces."
/ The mass use of strike drones is hampered by their cost. "Lancets" are not suitable for this - too expensive. We need cheap solutions on the order of 100,000 rubles ($1000) per drone. Such samples already exist, but these are volunteer developments."
/ "The widespread use of #AI in loitering munitions is also necessary for their massive use. At the same time, one cannot rely only on AI, since its algorithms can be deceived. For deadly accurate fire, you need a combination of overlapping intelligence: visual reconnaissance…
/ "The adversary likes to raise their antennas in the air, which increases their effectiveness. For US intelligence, the aviation component is very developed, which gives them the advantage of seeing out to hundreds of kilometers. We are still weak at this."
/ "But even raising repeaters and radar stations in the air on drones would give us a huge advantage. VTOLs, which are now being actively introduced into the military, can successfully cope with this task and even help with deep reconnaissance."
/ "It is also necessary to create an effective automated control system - without this, the effective use of UAVs is impossible. For high-quality logistics, you need to use both ground and aerial drones. Such devices already exist or are under development."
