Even the Maāthir-ul Umarā mentions the significance of Puri and further records, “the Rāja (Mān Singh), in the 37th year, addressed himself firmly to the task of extirpating them (the Afghans) and conquering that country.”
The Jagannath chronicles (madalpanji) themselves record that the Muktīmandapā of the temple was constructed by a wife of Raja Mān Singh.
Furthermore, the recapture of Jagannath was a stated objective of the Orissa campaign, a reference to which is found in the Māncharitāvali.
