How to create your profitable niche in 7 minutes.
The 4-3-2-1-0 method:
You have 1 bullet.
There are 3 birds sitting on a wire.
Goal: Kill something.
What do you do?
I assume you’ll aim for one (either left or right), because aiming at everyone (or every bird) will assure you hit none.
That’s why you need a niche for your business.
Having a niche helps you:
- Refine your offer
- build a loyal customer base
- become an authority in your field
All necessary moving parts you need to build a business.
Most people don't know what their niche is because they try to find it.
Silly move.
A niche isn’t a birthmark.
It’s not hiding under your armpit or feet.
It’s a mix of your interests, skills, and impact on scale. You can't find it. You must create it.
Here’s how to do just that using the 4-3-2-1-0 method:
“4”
What are 4 things you’re interested in?
Business is tough and if you hate what you’re doing, it won’t last. Good news: It's possible to make money doing what you love.
Let’s imagine you’re into:
• Pottery
• Coding
• Marketing
• Web design
“3“
List 3 subtopics under each of your interests.
This exercise will reveal how immersed you are in those interests.
The aim is to find the favourites among your favourites.
“2“
What were the 2 topics you filled the fastest?
Humans are lazy — we do the easy stuff first.
The future of work is play and clearly you’ve spotted what is effortless to you. Grab them and drop the rest.
Let’s imagine they are:
• Coding
• Marketing
“1“
A niche is a (singular) zone of expertise.
To determine THE ONE, we need to pick the most relevant.
- Which are you skilled at?
- What does the world need?
- What can you get paid well for?
- What has the least competition?
Let’s imagine it’s marketing.
“0“
Congrats. You found a promising niche, but it’s broad.
Chip this down by posting content online (ex: Twitter) around all parts of marketing (sales, audience growth, etc) until you find Point 0.
PS: If you aren’t credible on these subjects, be a curious curator.
After 15-30 days of tweeting 3x per day, you’ll notice some tweets on certain topics get more:
- likes and shares than others
- DMs and requests for guidance
- invites to events or podcasts to discuss more
This is Point 0.
Point 0 is the intersection between:
- your interests
- your competences
- what the market asks (based on DM)
- and what you’ll make a living off of
Point 0 is why you’re still reading.
It’s your niche. Your "profitable purpose".
This method helps you:
- create your own category
- attract your tribe
- become irreplaceable (not even by Altman and his auto-bots)
To do this, you must become your avatar. The CEO and the customer.
@thedankoe summarises best here:
@thedankoe Your niche will change as the days go by.
Yesterday, it's drawing smileys in the sand.
Today, it’s selling NFTs.
Tomorrow, maybe you’ll build the next Pixar.
Just explore.
If you get lost, the 4-3-2-1-0 method has your back.
@thedankoe The “4-3-2-1-0” technique will help you create your niche.
How to use it:
• Highlight your “4” strengths
• List out “3” subtopics under each
• Pick the fast “2”
• Select the “1” on demand
• Test and find the point “0”
I hope it helps you.
@thedankoe Thanks for stopping by.
