My grandma use to narrate this experience during her 8th level school days in 1940s in Trichy, when she was approached by a Christian convert girl, (who came from a Brahmin family) insisting my grandma whether she would convert to Christianity, citing some emotional things.. 1/n
She use to tell abt the similarities of our names in our family, relatives etc, & also how much my grandma can benefit by conversion. After knowing the indoctrination isn’t working with my grandma, she use to talk on economic benefits…so I’m least surprised on #KeralaStory…2/n
After many years, my grandma found her.. she was a nun.. and one of the prominent founding members of Stella Maris Ladies College, Chennai.
My Grandmas friend: Sr Helen Vincent
Father: Subrahmanya Iyer
Mother: Bhagavathi..
i was told their family was in abject poverty.. they were doing farming in a small village in Tenkasi..facing financial difficulties..
Missionary after conversion rechristened their names…Her father Subrahmanya Iyer as Vincent.. Madhuravani to Helen..thus Helen Vincent. Missionary later funded a soda company for her fathers livelihood which was later known as “Vincent Sodas” in TN.
