*PLAGF Special Forces Thread*
The first SOF (特种作战) unit of the #PLA was established in 1988 but the main driver for forming more units was US's Gulf War and Israel's achievements in their war on terror.
Today there are 14 active SOF units under PLAGF - One for each GA.

ETC has 3 units:
"Shark" (Jiangsu)
"Thunderbolt" (Shanghai)
"Dragons of East China Sea" (Fujian)
All are highly relevant in case of any escalation with Taiwan

STC has 2 units:
"Southern Sword" (Guangdong)
"Jungle Tigers" (Yunnan)
The former trains for South China Sea's escalations and the latter more for the Yunnan/Vietnam's area.

WTC has 2 units:
"Leifeng" (Gansu)
"Southwest Cheetahs" (Sichuan)
Units that might find themselves supporting a campaign around Tibet or India.

NTC has 3 units:
"Blood Wolves" (Heilongjiang)
"Lion" (Liaoning)
"Eagle" (Shandong)
All are highly relevant in case of any escalation with Japan or Korean Peninsula.

CTC has 2 units:
"Cheetah" (Shanxi)
"Loud Arrow" (Beijing)
A third unit, "Plain Tigers" (Henan) was transferred lately to the PLA Marine Corps.
These units can act has a reserve for an escalation in any theater.

Xinjiang & Tibet each has one SOF brigade - "Kunlun Sword" (Kashgar) and "Highland Snow Leopard" (Lhasa) respectively.
