Age reversal works in primates to restore vision. Announced by my collaborator Dr. Bruce Ksander & @lifebiosciences. Next up: age reversal in humans.
How’s that @elonmusk? 🚀

Congratulations to the teams @harvardmed @MassEyeAndEar and @lifebiosciences, the company I cofounded in 2017 to use longevity science to combat age-related diseases. Couldn’t be prouder! 2/
Here’s Bruce giving his landmark lecture today #ARVO2023. The monkeys were treated with a version of our lab’s inducible AAV-OSK system, which was recently used to extend mouse lifespan 3/
Epigenetic reprogramming is a new frontier. This day comes after many years of work by @lifebiosciences, @MassEyeAndEar & my lab @harvardmed to develop safe age reversal technologies to reset old, damaged tissues. Image: mouse nerves regrowing (Lu, 2020 @Nature) 4/
Epigenetic reprogramming works in monkeys to treat an injury to the retina called NAION, basically a stroke in the back of the eye. There is nothing doctors can do currently to reverse vision loss. Human trials are next at lifebiosciences.com 5/
Pictured on the right is @YuanchengLu, my former PhD student, now a postdoc at MIT, who led the mouse studies with Bruce and me. On the right is Dr. Shinya Yamanaka, who won the 2016 Nobel for discovering genes that turn adult cells into stem cells, on whose shoulders we stand 6/

A wonderfully written article about our latest paper @CellCellPress on why we age and how to control it - by @AliceParkNY @TIME. I will be speaking with Alice next week @LincolnCenter 10/10

Er Dr Yamanaka is on the left
Sharon Rosenzweig-Lipson, PhD, chief scientific officer of @lifebiosciences, said the company was pleased to present the data, which further validates Life Bio’s innovative approach to cellular rejuvenation.
“This approach has implications far beyond NAION and even the vision…
.@lifebiosciences is advancing its cellular rejuvenation capabilities across a range of aging-related diseases, including additional ophthalmic and neurodegenerative indications 👏
The technology is based on the Information Theory of Aging and works by reprogramming the epigenome of older animals to resemble that of younger animals via expression of three Yamanaka factors, Oct4, Sox2, and Klf4, collectively known as OSK
The approach partially reprograms cells to adopt a more youthful state while retaining their original cellular identity
