Privacy and anonymity are becoming harder and harder to achieve.
The TOR Network enables this, however, its capabilities are limited by the number of relays operating.
What if there was a way to incentivize TOR relays to fuel mass adoption?
An @atorprotocol $ATOR 🧵👇
@atorprotocol In this thread, I'll dive into the following:
🔏 What is Tor?
🔏 What is @atorprotocol? ($ATOR)
🔏 Proof-of-Uptime
🔏 The Hardware
🔏 The $ATOR Token
🔏 Token utility
@atorprotocol 🔏 What is Tor?
The Tor network is a group of volunteer-operated servers that allows people to improve their privacy and security on the Internet.
@atorprotocol Tor's users employ this network by connecting through a series of virtual tunnels rather than making a direct connection, thus allowing both organizations and individuals to share information over public networks without compromising their privacy.
@atorprotocol There are 5 major globally important decentralised networks:
1) Internet - global information network
2) $BTC - global P2P store of value
3) $ETH - global dapp network
4) BitTorrent - global P2P file sharing network
5) Tor - global P2P privacy network
@atorprotocol Tor is 20 years old and was once the epicentre of the bitcoin marketplace between 2010-2014 that propelled crypto, but while crypto took off Tor has been left behind until now… 👉 Insert $ATOR
@atorprotocol 🔏 What is $ATOR?
Ator Protocol is a protocol with security and anonymity in mind.
Through a range of incentives and hardware products, Ator is able to incentivize users to use TOR and push the mass adoption of secure and anonymous networks.
@atorprotocol TOR requires what are called "Tor Relays" to maintain uptime and the anonymity of the TOR network, traditionally these Tor Relays are not rewarded for their work.
That's where $ATOR comes in 👇
@atorprotocol The team at $ATOR has designed and built a framework that enables existing Tor Relays to earn their native $ATOR tokens as a reward for being a relay.
Reward amounts are based on the relays cumulative uptime, through a Proof-of-Uptime mechanism (we'll cover this soon...)
@atorprotocol The $ATOR token is an ERC-20 token with a sole focus on decentralization so the Tor Relays can be rewarded in an anonymous fashion.
@atorprotocol Through incentivizing Tor Relays $ATOR hopes to increase the number of Relays on the TOR network, in return strengthing the network and allowing for a higher volume of traffic.
@atorprotocol 🔏 Proof-of-Uptime - How is uptime measured?
$ATOR uses a PoU mechanism to assign $ATOR rewards to Tor Relays, this mechanism verifies uptime by deploying PoU packets as Tor Packets as a way to "ping" the relays and confirm uptime.
@atorprotocol Through this "ping" $ATOR is able to mitigate the risk of relays faking uptime.
Over time as more pings are sent out $ATOR can get an accurate reading on which relays are providing useful uptime.
@atorprotocol Tor Relays that are providing useful uptime, uptime where the relay is prepared and ready to encrypt and decrypt web packets for the Tor algorithm are rewarded with $ATOR for their work.
@atorprotocol 🔏 The Hardware
One of the interesting components of this project is the hardware, while many crypto projects are purely digital $ATOR is not.
The team has two pieces of hardware soon to be available:
✅Relay
✅Router
@atorprotocol What on earth is the Relay? Do I need one to be a Tor Relay?
While the $ATOR Relay hardware is not required to be a Tor Relay it does help non-technical users get set up.
The Tor Relay hardware is designed specifically to be a... Tor Relay
@atorprotocol And best of all it comes automatically registered into the $ATOR protocol.
As soon as you turn on and set up the Relay you will be earning your $ATOR rewards.
@atorprotocol So what's the router? Why is that needed?
Think of the $ATOR Router as an anonymous and secure hotspot that connects you directly to the Tor network.
@atorprotocol Using a $ATOR router you can connect to an existing internet source and have all your data routed through the Tor Network for complete privacy and anonymity.
The router is designed to be portable and run on a very low power source.
@atorprotocol 🔏 The $ATOR Token
$ATOR is an fair luanched ERC-20 token that is used to pay out incentives on the $ATOR protocol.
$ATOR holders also receive early access to the ATOR hardware such as the router and the relay.
@atorprotocol How are the $ATOR tokens distributed you may ask?
CEX: 10%
Vested (2 years): 20%
In Contract: 25%
Liquidity: 45%
$ATOR has an implemented tax schedule however this does not affect the end-user (buyer or seller) rather the team sells the tax % in tokens to further raise funds.
@atorprotocol 🔏 Token utility
One of the main questions I had while researching $ATOR was whats the token utility.
During the research I found a couple easy ones:
🔸 Pay node operators
🔸 Governance
🔸 Pay for hardware
And then I found some more interesting ones in the making 👇
