1525-1575 is the worst for Hindu civilization and very few realize that.
1527 - Conquest of Majapahit Empire
1527 - Battle of Khanwa
1556 - Battle of Panipat
1564 - Battle of Damoh
1564 - Siege of Marwar
1565 - Battle of Talikota
1568 - Battle of Gohira Tikiri

Look at the scope of geography involved. Hindus took a severe beating everywhere - most of the cases, they were browbeaten into submission and in some cases, they saw the complete end of Hindu political system and political supremacy.
Note that I mentioned the last major battle in the campaign which crushed the Hindu aspirations and not the whole campaign - for example, the Jodhpur tug of war existed at least fron 1544 and after Damoh, capture of Garha was a formality.
I would say we ended up where we are because of fatigue. Continuous wars for 300-400 years will drain anyone. 300 years of no replacement on one side and 300 years of unlimited supply from Ummat is going to make a difference any day.
Its not as if Muslims fared any better - the fatigue on their side is also telling - 700- they breached Indus but it took 1325 for them to breach Kaveri - they lost it in decades and gained it only by 1705. Too huge a time gap.
A microcosm of this. Why did the British defeat Marathas? Marathas had to run a kingdom, British just had to hire mercenaries. The cost of maintaining an army can be the same for both. But, the cost of running a kingdom is huge -
and even more so when there is continuous war and the subjects need protection - protection of their wares from loot, protection of the crops and without putting impossible taxes - that will drag any kingdom down.
