1977: Students' Islamic Movement of India(SIMI) was formed in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh. Same Aligarh where 2-nation theory was originated by the founder of Aligarh Muslim University. Mission of SIMI:
liberation of India by converting it to an Islamic land. 1/11
SIMI has age limit of 30 years for membership. So it targeted youth & students. Islamist extremist organisation SIMI has declared Jihad against India. It’s aim:
To establish Dar-ul-Islam (land of Islam) by either forcefully converting everyone to Islam or by violence. 2/11
26 Sept 2001 - 27 Sept 2003:
SIMI got banned following 9/11 attacks in USA. It’s members were prosecuted under:
> Terrorist & Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act;
> Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA); &
> Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act 1967. 3/11
To avoid law enforcement agencies, SIMI started operating under different names and fronts:

27 Sept 2003 - 27 Sept 2005:
SIMI was banned for 2nd time. Surprisingly, Congress govt didn’t ban SIMI for next 4 months. 8 Feb 2006:
SIMI was banned for 3rd time.
Ban notification & note stated that SIMI deserved to be banned for clandestine acts & links with 20 orgs. 5/11
Ban against SIMI reached UAPA Tribunal, Delhi HC. 27 July 2006:

15th Feb 2007: Supreme Court describes SIMI as a "secessionist movement". 5th Aug, 2008:
UAPA Tribunal, Delhi HC lifted ban on SIMI:
"Material given by home ministry is insufficient, ban cannot be continued”. 7/11
Lalu Yadav & Mulayam Singh Yadav: two major allies of Congress led UPA openly hailed the decision. But,
6 Aug, 2008:
Supreme Court STAYED order of Delhi High Court and reimposed the ban on SIMI. 8/11
2012:
Indian government extended the ban imposed on SIMI by 2 years. UAPA Tribunal, Delhi HC upheld ban imposed by Indian govt on SIMI after finding its links with Lashkar-e-Taiba. 7th Feb 2014: Indian government renewed the ban on SIMI under UAPA for 5 years. 9/11
18 May 2014, at Bhopal district court: SIMI members when produced, they shouted:
“Taliban zindabad”

2023: Modi govt while defending the ban on SIMI before the Hon’ble Supreme Court has filed an affidavit stating that SIMI seeks to make India an Islamic country which can’t be allowed. 11/11
