Five most vital things which worked for me to crack #UPSC exam for #IFS
1. Waking up before 5am. It keeps you motivated and focussed during entire day, also enhances energy level. Both are most essential for cracking exam.
"Bhahma Mahurat Works (BMW)". Amazingly.
2. Studying optional (Geology) from original books- covering full syllabus, every topic- upto only that much depth as questions asked in last 15-20 yrs. Reading from original books gives in-depth understanding which helps to tackle indirect qns. Gives edge.
"Mann laga ke padhna".
3. Presentation of answers- using colorful diagrams in answersheet, ledgible handwriting (handwriting decent so that examiner should want to read) & writing answers in structured way... my way of giving respect to the examiner.
"Give respect, get respect (marks)"
4. Stopwatch study- daily while starting study, stopwatch would be on... during even small mins breaks, it would be paused. Like this, in a 24 hour period, study time should be between 8.30-10 hrs consistently, 6 days/week (Mon to Sat). Attending classes counts as study hrs.
Sundays are battery recharge days- meet frnds, talk to family, watch movies,go out... whatevr recharges ur battery for next week.A chart of daily study hours should hang in front of ur study table.
Repeat.
(A study partner would be helpful, but he/she shd not be a distraction)
5. Winner mindset - Always positive mindset that I ll crack the exam. I am doing things systematically. Everyday I am enhancing my knowledge, getting better in answer presentation. Visualize urself getting a good rank, entering Academy (I had LBSNAA gate pic as wallpaper).
Above points constitute 99% of exam cracking formula IMHO. Apart from this, a guide/mentor who can do your course correction once in a while.. say if studying right books with good input:output ratio, advising on presentation, lift you up when feeling low/not maintaing study hrs.
Guide/mentor's is role is only 1%, but vital. Maintaining consistency in the abovementioned formula is the most important factor which will decide your success. In my case, I give this credit to my parents and Shri Krishen Kak Sir.
"The power of compounding"
All the best.
