Warrior Women of India:
Women in India have made formidable warriors since the age of kings and queens, and have served and protected their kingdoms with bravery, wit and courage.

Rani Lakshmibai was one of the brave warriors of India's struggle for Independence. In 1853,Lord Dalhousie refused to acknowledge the child and applied the Doctrine of Lapse, and annexed the state. She fought bravely against the British so and died fighting on the battlefield.
Rani Durgavati of Gondwana - A descendant of the Chandella kings, and married into the Gond dynasty of Madhya Pradesh, Rani Durgavati was a tribal warrior through and through, and she proved her mettle when she defeated the sizeable Mughal army that aimed to enter her kingdom.
Velu Nachiyar - The little-known queen from Tamil Nadu, was the first Indian ruler to fight and triumph against the British. She did this in 1780, 77 years before the First War of Independence. Popularly known as โ€˜veeramangaiโ€™ (brave woman).
Ahilyabai Holkar is a feminist figure who devoted her life to defeating patriarchal aggression and establishing womenโ€™s rights at a time when women were confined to the four walls of their houses.
Rani Abbakka, the ruler of Ullal (a town in Mangalore), was the first Tuluva Queen and was called the โ€˜first woman freedom fighter of Indiaโ€™. Rani Abbakka fought against the Portuguese for over four decades when they trained their eyes towards the South after capturing Goa.
Kittur Chennamma, the Queen of Kittur, was one of the first Indian rulers to lead an armed rebellion against the British East India Company in 1824, against the implementation of the Doctrine of Lapse. She was born in 1778, 56 years before the 1857 revolt led by Rani Lakshmi Bai.
Razia Sultan was the first Muslim female ruler. She ruled in Delhi from 1236 to 1240 as the Sultan herself โ€“ it was a title never before bestowed on a woman, a position of power never before attained by a woman. She was the fifth Mamluk Sultan.
Keladi Chennamma was the queen of Keladi Kingdom in Karnataka. After her husband's death in 1677, Chennamma efficiently handled the administration. During her reign of 25 years, she repelled the advance of the Mughal Army led by Aurangzeb from her military base at Sagara, Karntka
