1-I met today, w Dr. Muhammad Jumaih, Yemen permanent delegate to UNESCO, the Assistant Director-General of Information & Communication Sector, UNESCO", Tawfiq Jelassi, &discussed violations of freedom of opinion &expression by Houthi militia, &death sentence ruled journalists.
2- Intl orgs called for firm stance against Houthis crimes against journalists, inc. killing, abduction, enforced disappearance, torture, displacement, occupation & looting of media institutions, blocking websites, threatening &confiscating their property &salary suspension.
3-I pointed to provocative speeches by Abdul-Malik Al-Houthi, Houthis leader against media, describing them as more dangerous than fighters, designating them as enemy No.1 of militia &its sectarian &terrorism ideology, &hostile behavior towards journalists by Houthi supporters.
4- I discussed cooperation w UNESCO in training journalists &capacity building of media institutions to strengthen responsible media discourse that conveys truth & promotes values of peace &tolerance, &create effective partnerships between government & UNESCO in all its projects.
5-UNESCO ADG, Tawfiq Jelassi, expressed the UNESCO’s readiness to provide technical &legal support to journalists & media &training programs that enhance capacities to contribute to building peace &heritage documentation, &training lawyers to defend freedom of opinion &expression
