Want to become the best at what you do?
Read this:
GROW is the most popular Coaching Framework you’ve never heard of.
It's used by countless high-performing businesses, coaches, and leaders daily to accelerate towards reaching goals.
Here's how you can use it to identify and attain excellence:
Most people set goals.
But goals alone aren't enough to get you from A to B.
The GROW Model is a coaching framework that establishes Goals, Reality, Options, and Will.
Combining these four steps will ensure you reach the right goal for the right reason; here's how:
1. Goal
Setting your goal isn’t as simple as it may seem.
Most don’t reach their goal because they’re chasing the wrong thing.
To set a helpful goal, you must define short and long-term success.
You need both immediate and aspirational goals.
Questions to help you set the right goal:
What does success look like?
What do you want to achieve?
What would you like to change?
What will that enable you to do?
What do you want to get out of this?
What would make a big difference to you?
2. Reality
Reality is where you look in the mirror and admit your current state.
It does you no good to start chasing your goals from a lie.
Good, bad, or ugly, you need to admit your condition and the barriers to achieving the goal ahead.
Questions to help you face reality:
What’s happening now?
What do you need to know?
What’s working well and what isn’t?
What kept you from trying other things?
Where are you now in relation to your goal?
What is preventing you from obtaining your goals?
3. Options
We often have a very narrow way of thinking.
We have our mind set on doing X, and we aren't willing to consider other options.
"My way or the highway" isn't the best path forward.
You must be willing to consider all options to help you get where you want to be.
Questions to help you see your options:
What else could you do?
What has worked in the past?
What would someone else try?
What strengths can you build on?
What are the pros and cons of each option?
If you had a magic wand, what would you do?
4. Will
Will is highly underrated.
It's so simple and yet so powerful.
You must decide what you're willing to do.
Having the best plan in the world means nothing if you're not willing to do it.
If you know you won't wake up at 430, don't plan to wake up at 430.
Simple.
Questions to help you discover what you will do:
What do you need to put into place first?
What actions will you take over the next week?
What will be the next step you take in the next 24 hours?
How/ when/ who/ where/ what will you do to move forward?
GROW is a do-it-yourself coaching process.
You may get frustrated if you try to follow the process perfectly every time.
Use it dynamically rather than as a fixed script or set process.
Be present and prepared to move between the stages when required.
That's a wrap!
