MYSTERIES OF SRI JAGGANATH TEMPLE-God’s own abode!
Jagannath Puri temple, one of the most important Hindu pilgrimage center is also famous as one of the 4 chardham pilgrimages in India. It is devoted to Sri Jagannath ji who is considered to be a form of Sri Vishnu by Hindus.
Jagannatha, Subhadra and Balabhadra is the trio of deities prayed by the devotees inside the temple. It is believed that praying upon the supreme lord in this temple frees you from all types of sins and grants you with boon of great prosperity. Sri Jagannathan is itself said to
be embodiment of param brahma or the complete concentration of all powers on earth. The history of the construction of this temple is ambiguous and largely unknown. There are various puranic and historic references relating to construction but no conclusive evidence can be
procured so far. But it is largely believed that there is some hidden force and power behind it as lord himself resides and protects it. You might be surprised to know that Mughal and afghans have attacked this holy shrine many times but couldn’t demolish the temple completely.
This is the power of Sri Jagannath ji and therefore I call it God’s own abode.
This temple is no ordinary place of worship and there are many mysteries surrounding it. Let’s have a look on some of them.
1. Mahaprasad offered at Sri Jagannath temple is cooked everyday by
cooks in one of the largest temple kitchens in India. This holy offering is cooked on firewood using 7 vessels or pots kept one above the other. Yet the food in the topmost vessel which is the farthest away from the firewood gets cooked first.
2. It might be astonishing but no
birds have ever been seen flying above the Jagannathan Puri temple.
3. There is no shadow seen of the main dome of Jagannath temple at any given hour of day.
4. Usually, the flag flaps in direction of wind. The top of temple has flag which always flap in the opposite direction
Of wind.
5. A twenty feet all chakra installed on top which weighs a ton also known as 'The Sudarshan Chakra' is visible from every single corner of city.!
