You breathe around 22,000 times a day...
But you're doing it wrong. (Yes, I’m going to be “that guy”).
Here’s how I improved my breathing (and the 5 incredible benefits I experienced):
I couldn’t breathe out of one nostril.
I finally went to go see an ENT doctor.
He told me the nostril was completely collapsed.
I then did 2 things:
• I got deviated septum surgery to fix the issue
• I started doing breathwork exercises every day
How can you fix your own breathing?
• Do breath work exercises - I recommend the @othership_us app
• Breathe through your nose instead of your mouth
• If your deviated septum (if you have one)
• Tape your mouth at night
Here are 5 benefits of improving your breathing:
@othership_us 1) Superior cognition
Breath work delivers more oxygen to your brain.
This boosts your:
• Memory
• Thinking
• Creativity
Taking a moment to breathe will also make you calmer.
Deep breathing stimulates noradrenaline which improves focus.
@othership_us 2) Better sleep quality
I don’t snore anymore.
Snoring is related to sleep apnea, which causes:
• Chronic fatigue
• High blood pressure
• Increased risk of heart attack
Improving your breathing can reduce sleep apnea.
This increases your mood, energy, and recovery.
@othership_us 3) Calmer mental state
Breathwork reduces cortisol (the stress hormone).
It also signals to your nervous system that you are safe from danger.
This reduces:
• Fear
• Panic
• Stress
• Anxiety
Try breathwork any time you feel overwhelmed by stress.
@othership_us 4) Clearer decision making
Breathwork affects your system similarly to how meditation does.
Meditation has been proven to shrink the amygdala and grow the prefrontal cortex.
This improves emotional control so you are better able to make decisions in challenging situations.
@othership_us 5) Greater athletic performance
Regular breathwork improves your:
• VO2 max
• Blood pressure
• Strength output for lifting
• Cardiovascular endurance
• Oxygen flow to your brain and body
Better breathing makes for a better body.
@othership_us New to breathwork?
Try this simple exercise::
• Breathe out
• Breathe in through your nose for 6 seconds
• Hold your breath for 7 seconds
• Breathe out through your nose for 8 seconds
• Repeat at least 4 times
Check out the @othership_us app for more guided exercises.
