My health-related predictions for this year
1/ Ozempic and Mounjaro are diabetes drugs that make you lose weight.
Two months ago I hadn't heard of them – now I know 10+ people on them (mainly Ozempic).
Prescriptions for these are going to skyrocket this year as people love easy ways to lose weight.
2/ Similar to Ozempic... one day I didn't know anyone who took Adderall, the next day everyone I knew took it.
If you have ADHD, I'm sure it helps. But 90% of people who take Adderall do so because it's an amphetamine and feels great.
This can't go on forever.
3/ Psychedelics have quickly gone from "I did shrooms once in college" to "I do them occasionally" to "my therapist thinks I should microdose"
2023 is the year psychedelics go mainstream as big name people (celebs, execs, athletes, etc) publicly state that they do them regularly
4/ Because of this, psychedelics investing will boom.
Similar to marijuana investing several years ago, VCs will chase the entire supply chain (production, distribution, consumer, etc).
The OG psychedelics community will push back against this commercialization.
5/ Alongside psychedelics acceptance, we'll see ketamine therapy as an accepted substitute for antidepressants.
This is my most controversial take, but I've directly seen ketamine therapy be an incredible alternative to antidepressants.
[this should be done with a doctor obv]
6/ Anecdotally, less and less of my friends drink. Many now just drink at big occasions.
As more people consume content from the @hubermanlab's of the world, alcohol consumption will decrease.
However, everyone needs a vice... decreased alc is another driver of psychedelics.
7/ Our obsession with optimizing everything means more people will track their vital metrics.
After all, how do you actually know if that decreased alcohol consumption is doing anything?
Companies like InsideTracker and Wild Health will do well.
8/ I have no insight into Oura or Whoop but I've got to imagine they're money-losing machines.
They could raise more hundred million dollar rounds...
Or they could sell for billions to FAMG.
I bet they sell as our tech lords pay huge multiples for personal health data.
9/ Today's health-tech only tracks high level metrics like sleep, blood pressure, and heart rate.
Combine our desire with optimization + billions of funding for health data + lack of established vital tracking co's...
And you get major funding for a subcutaneous health tracker.
10/ Finally, unfortunately transgender treatments will become the new abortion.
Conservative states will discuss banning transgender procedures now that they have the power.
Get ready for another Supreme Court battle.
11/ Agree? Disagree? Would love to hear what you think.
