1. Major General Foluso Oyinlola is the nephew of Somalia theatre hero, Brigadier General Olagunsoye Oyinlola. They are both princes of the royal house of Okuku in Osun State.

2. Beginning at about this time in 1998 and continuing until Feb 1999, there was a major uptick in fighting occasioned by the bloody Battle of Freetown II.

3. C130s and charter flights were buzzing across the federation as troops got airlifted to Freetown for a grand urban brawl as thousands of RUF rebels cost Sierra Leoneans and West Africans alike many lives and limbs through mind-numbing butchery
4. That period was marked by a continuing episode of burials of Nigerian soldiers KIA by day and by night at the Atan Cenetery, Yaba.

5. My direct encounter with the war wounded at this time was that which I had with then Lieutenant Foluso Oyinlola. Alongside his beautiful and very decent cousin, Titi, then a law student at UNILAG and my buddy Yemi, we paid Foluso a get-well visit at the Military Hospital, Yaba
6. His spirits were quite high despite the huge POP which encased his leg. Yemi and I watched with amusement as a hugely relieved Titi fussed over her dearly beloved first cousin, Foluso. She must have hugged him ten times as he kept on reassuring her that all was really OK
