A symbol around which women rallied demanding the right to be safe in public places. A symbol around which policies were framed to deter crimes against against women. A symbol for a woman's right to be free.

Sadly, Nirbhaya remained a symbol.
Nothing much has changed, despite a few policies being printed on paper. Crimes against women, particularly women from oppressed communities continues to be high. Most states do not even have a Women's Commission.
