.com vs .io vs .ai
What each domain extension means and when to use it:
.com
The dotcom boom and bust.
In the 90s people would slap โ€œ.comโ€ on their website + company name.
Valuation would soar.
Most B2C companies today use .com
Itโ€™s still the gold standard.
.ai and .io
The tech domain battle.
Most short domain names are taken for .comโ€™s.
So companies often choose short .io or .ai names if the .com is taken.
Both domains are tied to specific geographies. No one cares though, it doesnโ€™t change anything.
.io
Many tech startups use .io
IO stands for Input/Output.
Software receives input via keyboard - processes it - outputs it on a display.
Aka why many tech startups use it.
.ai
.ai is a little more specific.
It may also do the input/output process.
But machine learning is part of the companyโ€™s core value prop
Not to be confused with .ai files (Adobe Illustrator).
