How to take notes in print books, ebooks, AND audiobooks:
Here's a simple framework that will teach you how to take notes in any book medium.
It's called HISA:
-Highlight
-Index
-Summarize
-Apply
Here's how it works:
1) Highlight
As you read the book, highlight any key insights, quotes, or advice you come across.
Print book = Use a physical highlighter
Ebook = Use the highlight tool
Audiobook = Use the bookmark feature
2) Index
Create an index of your highlights so you can easily find them in the future.
Print = Write down the page # inside the front cover of the book
Ebook = Import your highlights into a notes app
Audiobook = Transcribe your bookmarks and import them into your notes app
3) Summarize
Review your highlights and write a summary of the most important lessons.
Print = Jot down the key lessons on the back cover of the book
Ebook = Write the key lessons in your notes app
Audiobook = Write the key lessons in your notes app
4) Apply
The final step is to turn your key lessons into actionable advice and go apply it.
Print = Write the actionable advice on the back right-side of the book
Ebook = Write the actionable advice in your notes app
Audiobook = Write the actionable advice in your notes app
