Have you read blogs titled ‘12 best footer examples’ to find one brilliant example and one that’s blah?
When I wrote for @Klaviyo, I had to sort through 300 emails to find the perfect 15.
I was pulling my hair out finding ones highlighting Klaviyo AND the article’s intent.

🔥 So I developed a matrix for scoring quality examples👇
(My actual Matrix for Klaviyo in the last tweet!)
(My actual Matrix for Klaviyo in the last tweet!)
👉1. How recent is the example? (Importance 5/5)
The world–especially the digital one–changed completely post-covid. Any examples from before 2020 should be analyzed heavily for relevance today.

🔥 Eg: A blog on ‘10 companies with the best work culture’ with *only* in-office culture examples will tank int the remote-work world At best, your audience will think it’s a ‘nostalgic blast from the past’. At worst, they’ll bounceee.
👉 2. Do you have results from the example? (Importance 4/5)
Who benefited from this? Do you have numbers or case studies? Do you have stories?

🔥Eg: Do you have numbers on employees retained by the ‘best work cultures company’? Or any case studies of happy employees?
Results boost the example’s credibility tremendously!
For Klaviyo, I picked examples that boosted sales, had 2X average open rates, or got widely shared.

👉 3. How unique is this example? (Imp. 3/5)
Unless the piece is specifically ‘X unique…’, uniqueness is not the highest ranking criterion. But it is important. With SO much same-y content online, people notice new stuff quicker. In fact, most are scanning for things that pop.

🔥 Eg: ‘10 Best work cultures' and one company on the list that offers ZERO benefits?
What makes them the best? People love the outliers, the misfits, and the conspiracy theories.

🔥 Eg: A blog on ‘X best email footers’ with beautifully designed footers as examples automatically makes your own blog pop.
5. How is the copy in this example? (Importance 1/5)
Technically, good copy is as important as good design. BUT when it’s embedded in a screenshot, people tend to gloss over it.
Unless it’s an example of something writing specific, like ‘X best-written newsletters’.
