How to make it in #crypto starting with no money

If you’re trying to turn a 3-5 figure sum of money into something substantial the best way is likely not trading.
- Airdrops
- Free mints
- Crypto jobs/tasks (such as community manager/interns)
- Getting involved in projects/communities early and helping out - networking

Unless you have some sort of edge in the markets then it is highly unlikely you’re going to turn profitable as a trader before you lose most of your hard-earned money.
It can be done, but for most crypto traders it takes years before they’re consistently profitable.

Most projects will release a token and it's a common trend that most of these want to reward early community members

Hot to spot new airdrop opportunities?
Step 1) Go to: defillama.com This is a list of tokenless protocols, which basically means that they may release a token in the future. As mentioned, most protocols to this because it’s an incentive to use their product.
Step 2) Sort by “Listed at” and look through the list. The shorter time since they’re listed, the more likely it is that you have time to get a potential airdrop.
Step 3) Let’s do an example. Look at the first one: “Heliswap”.
Step 3) Let’s do an example. Look at the first one: “Heliswap”.
This is the first DEX on the Hedera network ($HBAR) supporting swaps between HTS, ERC20s and HBAR.
Step 4) Search for “Heliswap airdrop” on Twitter and browse through the results. For example I found out that $OM stakers will be eligible for $HELI airdrops.
Step 4) Search for “Heliswap airdrop” on Twitter and browse through the results. For example I found out that $OM stakers will be eligible for $HELI airdrops.
And also people who provide an LP with $HBAR/$OM will earn $OM, $HBAR and a $HELI airdrop.
Step 5) Go through the list on DeFiLlama with all the potential tokens and repeat step 4 so you collect enough information about them

Step 6) You won’t find info about airdrops all the time on Twitter.
A good idea is therefore to also search on their Discord channel, or maybe even Telegram. Most of the time the protocols try to deny that there is any airdrop at all because of legal consequences.

In general using protocols with actions such as swapping, staking, and LP’ing, doing transactions, connecting wallets with history.
Chasing airdrops may seem a little hassle, but could definitely be worth it if your portfolio is less than $100,000.

There are countless examples of people that received airdrops on solid 5-fig just by doing simple swapping and staking in the ecosystem.
Checking DeFiLlama daily is a no-brainer and doesn’t take much time.

This could be the difference between earning zero and 5 fig for free several times per year.

The price of a NFT is always what the market is willing to pay for it. But the good thing is that from time to time some projects are releasing free mints.
That means that they’re giving away the NFT for free.
That means that they’re giving away the NFT for free.
I think this is going to be a trend increasing in popularity moving forward.
My friend @cryptunez recently put out a nice post mentioning how recent free mints have all been worth over 10 $ETH:
So, how do you get a free mint?

So, how do you get a free mint?
Step 1) Do research on Twitter and Discord. Search eg. “free mint” in the Twitter search bar.
Step 2) Use free tools like eg.
It allows you to see what's minting at any point in time but what makes it so powerful is you can also see who is minting what.

In other words, you can follow Smart Money. Check out this thread to learn more about it:
BE CAREFUL WITH USING WALLETS FOR FREE MINTS, there has been many scams going around where you mint and your wallet gets drained.

Step 3) Follow the right people on Twitter. You want to follow the genuine people in the NFT community and in general, not shit accounts who promote scam projects.
Step 4) Join alpha groups or at least apply to join some. Eg @zeneca_33 has a group that you can apply for.

I will be opening my whitelist only free Discord really soon.
Alpha groups can potentially get you WL (whitelist) passes but also give you heads-up on big upcoming projects.
Step 5) DM people who are getting WL for projects you’re interested in and ask nicely how they got it.

Also, DM the team for a WL spot or ask how to get one. You’ve nothing to lose. A good thing to do is to hang around in the Discord groups first before you DM them. Be helpful and show interest in the project.
Step 6) Start a small Telegram/Discord group of like-minded NFT people who are happy to share WL spots. It’s easier to work in a team, and there’s no better feeling to share happiness/joy with a team og good friends than to do it all alone
Some of my friends that are now worth 9 figures started as community managers in various projects moderating chat rooms.
- Working for a project that is going to launch/has a token:
- Most of the time you can work remote & anonymously especially for DAOs
- Usually, salary is done fully on-chain with crypto + token vesting

But how do you get a job?
Before you start applying for jobs, ask yourself first: “Why should they hire me?”
Getting a job in crypto works in the same way as in real life.

You need to have some skills that make you stick out.
We all have to start somewhere. But in my opinion, the best way to stand out and show some proof of work is to make a Twitter account where you share things you’re curious about, things you research, or things you know.

Or even share valuable info from others.
A little bit about building a Twitter profile:
This is obvious, but don’t underestimate how important it could be to build a following on Twitter.

If you manage to combine getting a huge following + being followed by key players in the space + write about interesting topics you’ll become valuable and you’ll get tons of opportunities in the space.
But this is a long game, and this will absolutely not happen from the start.

If you want to go down this route, just take a look at the approx. 180 people I follow, lots of examples of successful profiles.

Working in crypto is all about what you know, not about degrees/certificates, etc. But think about it this way: the more visible you are on Twitter, the higher the probability that companies and DeFi protocols will see you.
For a person just starting out in crypto without any particular skills, my advice to you would be to look for:
- community roles
- writing tasks
- internships
Community roles:

Community roles:
DeFi protocols and NFT communities are always looking for someone to moderate their social media channels. Search up your favorite projects on Twitter, join their Discord, and start talking to people.
You could also send key members of the team a message and simply ask if there are any openings. If you want to try to apply for jobs, you could go here: web3.career
Writing tasks:
This is probably a little harder, because unless you could show some proof of earlier work, it could be hard to convince a company/DAO why you’re the right person for a writing job.

My best advice would therefore be to just start a newsletter (eg. Substack/Revue/Mirror.xyz) and share things you’re curious about. Stick with it long enough and you’ll be discovered sooner or later if you’re writing is good.
Countless of the best crypto Twitter profiles started this way.
Internships:
I get it. You don’t want to work for free.
But do remember that it’s only temporary + in exchange, you get to learn valuable lessons from some of the best in the game that may leverage your career 100x.

You could apply for internships here: web3.career or maybe even better ask DeFi protocols, NFT communities, crypto research companies directly if you could intern with them. You could also ask influencers you look up to.
Salary in crypto jobs:
The average Web3 non-tech salary is $80k - $112k per year. The salary depends on the specialty, years of experience, location, and seniority. Compared to the average salary in the US and Europe this is pretty good tbh.

A Product Manager has the highest average salary of $112k per year, with a minimum base salary of $50k and a maximum of $160k.
On the other hand, Social Media roles have the lowest salary.

4) Getting involved in projects/communities early and helping out - networking
So, this applies to crypto jobs as well. But this is more of a freelancing role.
So, this applies to crypto jobs as well. But this is more of a freelancing role.
For example, DeFi protocols and/or NFT communities have especially hectic times around token launches, mints or periods where they raise money.
My point with 4) is simply that you help them in a limited period of time in exchange for token allocation or a fixed salary based on the results.
In general I’d say this is more for people who’ve been in crypto for a while who already have a network or a specialized skill, but to get these roles all you have to do is asking.
If you ever get an internship with an influencer, ask them specifically about this and they can teach you exactly how to do it.
You could also help projects for free without anything in exchange than getting to know VIP people and building a network.

My general advice to you is that you should think more about your network than your networth earlier on. If you end up with the wrong people this will always backfire you later on and you will end up earning less money in crypto.
