🚨Hot take incoming:
Following blog post presents an interesting idea of using Cosmos inter chain security to decentralise Rollups with no tokens.
forum.celestia.org
👉🏽Imo @eigenlayer makes way more sense.
Some thoughts on why 🧵
Today, to decentralise, rollups need
1. their own token
2. some leader selection algorithm or a distributed FCFS
3. Add governance (to add use to the token)
4. Get a group of sequencers to run
Because this is very new, the sequencers will probably be reputation based anyway.
With EigenLayer, you could make use of the validators of L1.
Validators can re-stake their 32 ETH, earn extra yield, secure the rollup.
Rollups get way more security (since all of L1 validators secure them) and don’t need to worry about tokens or governance models.
Cost of attack for a rollup increases from all the sequencers they managed to secure vs all the validators that enlist EigenLayer’s service.
Of course there is NO way EigenLayer will be ready in time since rollups want to decentralise NOW. So does EigenLayer lose the battle before it began?
I think not…
eigenlayer has a dual core module to allow existing middleware’s (with their token and validator set) to still add security using EigenLayer.
Rollups could transition to use this too.
This switch is similar to @CelestiaOrg’s idea of asking rollups to use them for DA!
Anyway curious to hear your thoughts -

Also just realised I forgot to tag some folks from the rollup community:
