Today, to decentralise, rollups need
1. their own token
2. some leader selection algorithm or a distributed FCFS
3. Add governance (to add use to the token)
4. Get a group of sequencers to run
Because this is very new, the sequencers will probably be reputation based anyway.

With EigenLayer, you could make use of the validators of L1.
Validators can re-stake their 32 ETH, earn extra yield, secure the rollup.

Of course there is NO way EigenLayer will be ready in time since rollups want to decentralise NOW. So does EigenLayer lose the battle before it began?

eigenlayer has a dual core module to allow existing middleware’s (with their token and validator set) to still add security using EigenLayer.
Rollups could transition to use this too.
