Do you struggle with focus?
Here are 5 tips to develop lazer focus and get into deep work:
Unstimulate your brain.
Your brain isn’t designed for 7 second ads and 30 second TikToks.
This hurts your ability to focus by training your brain for quick dopamine hits.
When you try to do longer form work, motivation is nonexistent.
So, what should you do?
Schedule time for entertainment later in the day.
Prioritize high-lever moving tasks in the morning.
This creates separation and prevents distraction throughout the whole day.
It also allows you to practice long periods of focus.
Building your focus is like building muscle.
Sleep.
Lack of sleep leads to:
β€’ Impaired memory
β€’ Difficulties learning
β€’ Slowed thought processes
Aim to get 7 - 8 hours of sleep to perform at your best.
Want to sleep better?
β€’ Meditate
β€’ Get morning sunlight
β€’ Avoid caffeine past 11am
β€’ Avoid blue light 1 hour before bed
β€’ Go to sleep at a consistent time each night
β€’ Cool your bedroom between 60 to 67 degrees Fahrenheit
Make a deep work playlist.
Some great options:
β€’ Lofi
β€’ Classical music
β€’ Video game soundtracks
β€’ Hans Zimmer movie soundtracks
Over time, your brain will associate the music with deep work and make it easier to get into a flow state.
Use caffeine (the right way).
Consuming 100mg-300mg of caffeine with 200mg of L-theanine can be an effective way to focus without the jitters.
Give yourself time to get into flow.
Typically, when you start work, you’ll experience internal resistance after 5 minutes.
Keep in mind that this is normal and push through.
If you pass 20 minutes, you’ll enter your flow state and work becomes 10x easier.
